EEOC Sues Tampa Dealership for Discrimination
TAMPA, Fla.- Ferman Automotive Group and Cigar City Motors, which owns and operates the Tampa Harley-Davidson dealership and other car and motorcycle dealerships in the Tampa Bay area, violated federal law by failing to promote a female sales manager to numerous vacant general manager positions because of her sex. According to the EEOC, the dealership required her to participate in a "mentorship" program to be eligible for promotion - but male job candidates promoted to the positions did not have the same requirement. She was passed over nine (9) times for a male candidate. Read more.
IRS has Issued 300,000 ACA Penalty Letters
Since late 2017, the IRS has sent thousands of proposed penalty letters (called 226J letters ) under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to Applicable Large Employers (ALEs). The letter indicates the proposed assessment of a penalty under the Employer Shared Responsibility Provision (ESRP) of Section 4980H of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). These penalty calculations are based on data provided by employers to the IRS on Forms 1094 and 1095. Experts predict that more penalty letters for the 2016 Assessment year will go out this Fall. Two Florida Contractors Hit with Big OSHA Fines
St. Augustine, FL - In the last 2 weeks, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued big citations against two Florida contractors. On August 29, OSHA cited Coastal Roofing Inc. for exposing employees to fall and other hazards at a St. Johns, Florida, worksite. The Jacksonville-based roofing company faces $105,283 in proposed penalties. Read more.
