Eastern NC Pine Sawtimber and Pulpwood Prices Improve

Dropping stumpage prices in the second quarter is a recent seasonal tendency in the timber markets. On the other hand, both Southern pine and hardwood lumber prices were up in this quarter. Woodland Stewardship Course

This distance education course is designed for those who do not have a degree in forestry and it can be taken without degree credit through the NCSU non-degree studies program (NDS).
Registration deadline: August 20, 2018
The course provides an introduction and overview of non-industrial private forestry in the Southeast United States with emphasis on active forest management. Topics include history of human impact on forests, evolution of forest, forestry practices, timber and non timber management objectives, financial aspects of forest land management, and management planning.

Considering a Growing Season Prescribed Fire?
Do your homework and get results!
Growing season prescribed burning can be quite effective at reducing understory competition, improving wildlife habitat, and reducing wildfire fuels.
Compared to other practices such as chemical and mechanical treatments, growing season burns are considerably less expensive.
But, prescribed burning during the growing season is more challenging, not only from the weather and wildfire risk perspectives, but a fire that is too hot may kill desirable trees. Additional planning and expertise are required, which may lead to the conclusion that a stand is best suited for dormant season burning. A forester and/or a certified prescribed fire professional will work with you to determine how and when a prescribed fire can benefit your woodland. The NC Forest Service provides a list of qualified
Service Providers
for each district in the State of North Carolina.
