FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN...
"A VIEW OF THE DOME"
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" - Ecclesiastes 3:1
Greetings, Christ Church! I trust that each of you enjoyed a fun Summer. It was a great one at the Heaney house.
What season is it for you? Football, College Rush, Gardening, Football, New Beginnings, General Election, Football…?? I am relieved that we have football to watch just about every day of the week this year. Now, what about the new season that includes our Fall schedule at CCP? Do you realize that we just celebrated Labor Day? How did that happen so fast?
Besides the traditional end to wearing seersucker until late Spring next year, Labor Day brings us to the start of our Fall CCP season. "Kickoff Sunday" is on September 9th. Father Michael reminded us to anticipate bacon aromas wafting through the air again. Rev. Katie is recently ordained and bringing new energy and ideas to outreach efforts. Father Walt's sermon this past Sunday gave us hope in that no matter the season, we always have God to turn to when we may not know where to turn.
Our clergy and the CCP staff are excited to welcome you back this Fall. Come meet our newest staff members. Come enjoy breakfast. Bring your children and encourage them to join their peers, adult or teen or younger, for a Sunday School class. Bring new ideas to share with Vestry members, staff and Clergy. We are all ears and want to hear your creative thoughts.
Everyone has their season and time and purpose. I am thrilled to share this season with each of you. CCP will give us a time and a purpose under heaven. Let's make the most of it.
Chris Heaney, Senior Warden

Sunday School classes for both youth and adults
& the Parish Breakfast resume!
Adult Sunday School Classes ~ 9:30-10:15 AM
The Heresies — Knowing Who We Are By What We Are Not:
Fr. Michael & Rev. Katie will be co-teaching a class on the ancient heresies, the Church’s response, and modern applications.
This class will be held in the Parish Hall.
Lectionary Class:
Dick Hooper will lead a class that uses “Living the Good News” which looks at the readings used in church that Sunday. It is green or “ordinary” time in the church calendar, but the class will again discover that the parables are as fresh today as they were 2000 years ago. Come and see!
This class will be held in the Parlor.
Adult Education Round Table:
David Starling will facilitate a class whose purpose is to become better disciples of Christ by living in love and harmony with others and the creation. We do this through the study and discussion of scripture, current theology and how as Christians we can respond to the personal and social issues every human confronts.
This class will meet in Rm. 32, upstairs in the Christian Ed Bldg.

EPIC CHALLENGE BOOK CLUB
Wednesday, September 5 ~ 3:00 PM ~ Parlor
The September EPIC Challenge Book Club meeting will discuss
A Man Called Ove
, by Fredrik Backman. Ove is a genuine curmudgeon, and as we read, we learn all that has gone into creating the man he has become. Will he be mean-spirited to the end? Will he kick the scraggly cat? Will he scorn and berate his neighbors? Come join us on Wednesday, September 5th in the Parlor to discuss this heartbreaking and heart warming book.

FAMILIES, FELLOWSHIP, AND FORMATION

Parish Hall
Topic: Introduction to Godly Play
Menu: Pizza and salad
($2/person, $10 max per family)
We invite you and your family to join us for the inaugural Families, Fellowship, and Formation as we explore Godly Play! Godly Play is the unique Christian education curriculum used in Christ Church’s PreK – 2nd grade Sunday School classrooms. The purpose of Godly Play is to help the children explore their faith through wonder and play. Director of Children and Family Ministries, Jen Leahey, will be providing parents with information about this curriculum, then telling the Parable of the Mustard Seed. Following the story, families will have the opportunity to create their own parable box to take and retell at home. Parents may also register their children for Sunday School at this time. We encourage you to pause for a moment during your busy week to spend time as a family in fun, fellowship, and Christian formation!

CANTERBURY CHOIR
OPEN ENROLLMENT THROUGH SEPTEMBER
The Canterbury Choir provides children of the parish an opportunity to participate in a vital liturgical ministry: namely the offering of choral music during times of worship. All parish children in grades 1-8 are eligible to participate. The Canterbury Choir sings in church during the 10:30 AM service about once a month, participates in the annual Christmas pageant, and provides all the choral music for the family Christmas Eve service. Aspiring members should have a willingness to learn how to sing properly; a desire to make new friends in a large group; an ability to show reverence while providing an important role in worship; and a positive attitude. Training is provided on a weekly basis during the school year from 3:00-4:15 PM every Thursday afternoon. We begin with a snack at 3:00, so those who must arrive late are still encouraged to participate. Prior demonstration of singing skills is not required to learn how to be an effective singer. Interested? Please contact Treece Efird at the church, 432-5115, or via email at
CanterburyChoir@christ-church.net

CHRISTIAN FORMATION
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL ~ 9:30 AM
Sunday Adult Education Round Table
Stories are an important and enjoyable part of our lives. Parents love to tell stories about their children’s growing up. And, as we age we like to reminisce about our younger days, laugh at our past embarrassing moments, and remember loves and friends. Sermons are often filled with stories meant to challenge us to think about and reinforce the lessons of the scriptures. A great teaching technique has been the use of parables which Jesus used to great advantage. Our group will be reading and learning from a book by Amy-Jill Levine entitled,
Short Stories by Jesus.
Great parables continue to reveal new truths almost every time they are read. Come and join the lively discussion and hopefully gain new insights in order to enhance your Christian discipleship. For more information you may contact David Starling by text or phone at (850) 712-0977 or email
dastarling@cox.net
.
This class meets upstairs in Rm. 32 of the Christian Education Building.
Led by David Starling.
Sunday Centering Prayer Group —
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God's presence within us. We begin by taking a few minutes to go over the basic guidelines of the practice for anyone who is new. We then sit together in the 20-minute prayer period, followed by a brief time for sharing and intercessory prayer. All are welcome — newcomers and experienced practitioners.
This class meets in the Centering Prayer room on the administrative hallway.
The facilitator is Joan White.

ALTAR FLOWER MEMORIALS
Each week our worship service is enhanced with beautiful fresh flowers. After the Sunday services, the altar flower arrangements are reworked into smaller arrangements. These arrangements are delivered to members of our parish family that are unable to attend a Sunday service. The altar flowers are a memorial, a thanksgiving for an anniversary, a birthday, a new birth, or a thanksgiving for God's blessings. The donation is listed in the weekly bulletin. Forms to participate in this ministry are available on the information table in the Parish Office.
