I hope you enjoyed the Presidents' Day holiday this past Monday. Despite one less school day last week, our students and faculty kept up their fast pace as we move within three weeks until quarter-end. In our weekly "success indicators" (see table below) we report our tutoring totals. These tutoring opportunities are more important than ever now as once we finish with spring break next month, we will begin our annual "testing season" shortly thereafter. Once again, I encourage any of our Knights needing some extra help to take advantage of the tutoring over these next 14 days prior to spring break.
Below you will also find several pictures from Friday evening's PTSA led "Knight at the Carnival and Dance." The photos do a very good job of illustrating what a great time every one had! Thank you again to our terrific PTSA and to all the staff and volunteers that made this a memorable evening for the students. And to those families that have been supporting our PTSA Spirit Nights at local restaurants this school year, this was a good example of how some of those funds have been employed.
Please don't forget that both our boys and girls basketball teams enter the playoffs this Wednesday -
basketball brackets. Please come on out and cheer on your Knights!

Knight Topic: "What Freedom Means to Me"
|
Since 1948, Modern Woodmen of America has helped students to develop skills in clear thinking and public speaking, paving their way to future success in school, careers, and life. This year's topic has the students reflecting how freedom impacts their daily lives and how they define freedom. Benjamin Franklin wrote that
"Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God and nature."

Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is one of the premier science competitions in the nation, providing rigorous, standards-based challenges. Science Olympiad is an American team competition in which students compete in 23 events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Over 7,800 middle school and high school teams from 50 U.S. states compete each year. Lake Nona Middle School had 28 student representatives. All our students had so much fun with a medal in ornithology won by Safi Ali (8th grade) and Aditiya Krishnan (8th grade).

In observance of Black History Month,
Ms. Clermont's 2-D Art students are creating colorful collages based on artwork by Elizabeth Catlett. In the photos below students are shown developing the background designs based on African Fabric Patterns.

LNMS Advanced Symphonic Orchestra at Dr. Phillips High School for their 2019-20 Music Performance Assessment. They earned 100% Superiors!
|
The Music Performance Assessment (MPA) is one of the best ways to raise the standards of musicianship in Middle School and High School orchestras around the State of Florida. The Florida Orchestra Association, Incorporated along with the Florida School Music Association, provides Music Performance Assessment opportunities in which the students can hear other orchestras, receive constructive comments, and be rewarded for their accomplishments and efforts. It is the belief of the Florida Orchestra Association, Incorporated that our growth as individuals is defined in terms of our ability to develop thinking capacities, motor skills, and effective responses. Music is unique in that it has the potential to develop people in all three areas, fostering performance skills, musical creativity, and musical response.
The LNMS Advanced Symphonic Orchestra traveled to Dr. Phillips High School for their annual MPA. They performed three required pieces on stage in front of an audience and three judges. The students then studied for five minutes a piece of new music and performed the music for a judge for sight-reading performance.Congratulations for receiving all superior ratings from all of the judges at this event.

Five of our LNMS Orchestra students participated in the Suzuki Association of the America's Winter workshop held at our school two weekends ago. Students and teachers came from all over the United States for this event! Students had group lessons, fiddle lessons with professional musicians, and participated in a recital at the end of the day.
Mrs Rudzik also got to see one of her past students who was a teacher at the event (in picture with Mrs. Rudzik just below). She started
Ryan on the violin in the fourth grade and WOW, she is so proud that he was a teacher at this event. Students and teachers had a fantastic time learning more about how to be a great musician!

Both of our basketball teams ended their regular season with winning records of 6-1. Congratulations to both teams on advancing to playoffs.
We will be hosting the sweet sixteen round of playoffs on Wednesday, February 26th starting at 5pm. Our ladies play first versus Lockhart and our gentlemen play Carver. Please come pack the Kingdom in support of our Knights as they look to advance to the Elite-8.
