Family Nursing in Japan
| |
Family Nursing in Japan is thriving thanks to the foundational and visionary leadership provided by the late Dr. Chieko Sugishita, University of Tokyo. In 1994, Dr. Sugishita established the Japanese Association for Research in Family Nursing (JARFN) which currently has over 1500 members and is led by Dr. Kazuko Ishigaki, Director, and an elected Board of Directors. In 1995, Dr. Sugishita launched the Japanese Journal of Research in Family Nursing (JJRFN). JJRFN and the Journal of Family Nursing have recently agreed to exchange and publish 5 abstracts each year. Graduate programs with an emphasis on family nursing have a long history in Japan and more recently a Certified Nurse Specialist (CNS) role in Family Nursing has been developed. In June 2011, JARFN sponsored the very successful 10th International Family Nursing Conference in Kyoto with 1007 participants from 34 countries, the highest attendance at any International Family Nursing Conference to date. There are currently 54 IFNA members from Japan. For more information see: Ishigaki, K. (2013). An outline of the history of family nursing in Japan and the Japanese Association for Research in Family Nursing (JARFN). Journal of Family Nursing, 19(2), 140-145. doi: 10.1177/1074840713486872
