You never know who you'll meet at the
Southern KY Book Festival (SOKY). I've met R.L. Stein and the Fonz! Sadly, this year's event is canceled, as well as the Hudson Book Festival in May.
With so many school out, I hope you'll get a chance to read with your children. If you are looking for fun things to do I hope you'll check out the teacher's and kid's club pages on my website. The
teacher pages have full units for all of the Mermaid Tales books, as well as activities for many of my other stories. The
kids' pages have games, trivia, and activities your child or students might like to try.
If you haven't seen them yet, there is a collection of
Bailey School Kids club magazines that have drawing, reading, and fun things inside. They are printable, or kids can just enjoy reading them online. I just added a mermaid one, but you'll find lots of other folklore creatures as well.
The first graders at Caton's Chapel School school were fabulous listeners. It made me miss my teaching days!
Email me if you'd like me to Skype with your students ON March 23,
BAILEY SCHOOL KIDS DAY or April 28th. If you're not in session, perhaps another method just as Zoom?
In addition to a bouncing baby this year for my oldest son, we are also having a wedding for my daughter. I have been busy trying cookie recipes for the cookie table tradition in Pittsburgh. My first was so sad! But I am here to tell you that my white-chocolate-covered Oreos have improved greatly! Check out my first (above) and last attempts (below). And yes, I am making other cookies too.
Let me know if you have a cookie recipe to die for! I'm already planning lemon, wedding, and vanilla bean with fingers crossed that everyone will be healthy by June!
Not be outdone, the
Mermaid Tales have some free magazines of their own on my
Mermaid Tales kid's page. Your child can even submit a story to be featured in the next magazine! What a great time to write a story. Details can be found in MerStyle Magazine #3 and 4. Happy writing and reading! Stay well!
