Climate and Energy News from the San Diego Region
The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative closed out 2019 by hosting a Winter Network Meeting focused on adaptation planning, hazard mitigation planning and integrating equitable solutions. Presentations from Sona Mohnot, Greenlining Institute; Julia Chase, the City of San Diego; and Ryan Dehart, the County of San Diego can be accessed here .

As local host, we welcomed the Alliance of Regional Collaboratives for Climate Action (ARCCA) for their Quarterly Meeting, which featured presentations from the Coastal Commission on se a level rise guidance, as well as featured adaptation and community engagement project examples from across the state.

ADAPTATION

Save the date! The 2020 California Adaptation Forum is taking place August 18-20, 2020 in Riverside, CA. The forum aims to foster knowledge exchange, innovation, and mutual support to create resilient communities and tackle our state’s most pressing climate change challenges. To ensure the program features relevant and valuable content for participants, forum organizers are conducting a brief pre-forum survey. Take the survey by January 23rd to provide your input into the planning process!  

High-quality adaptation finance tracking identifies gaps and barriers in financing adaptation and resilience solutions, this report looks to fill data gaps in adaptation tracking and propose methods to measure progress. 
SEA LEVEL RISE

Assemblywoman Tasha Boerner Horvath of Encinitas discusses the role of local government officials and planning for the future. 

Actionable new guidance on how the State of California can help support local coastal adaptation efforts.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The framework finds that electrification can be a transformative force for low-income residents and it explains the steps the state must take to ensure that electrification helps close the clean energy gap in California and provides relief to millions of residents facing energy insecurity in the current system. 

This tool lets you score any community’s energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts using the metrics from ACEEE's 2019 City Clean Energy Scorecard.
CLIMATE-SMART WATER

Three California state agencies released a draft water resilience portfolio intended to help the state manage more extreme droughts and floods, aging infrastructure, declining fish populations and other challenges. This document is open for public comment until February 7th. 

Jan Coppinger, a special district administrator from Lake County, speaks on how the county’s small water systems have dealt with an especially devastating string of natural disasters.

Funding & Resources
This is a matching grant program that enhances local capacity to build equitable and sustainable communities. Applications Due January 31, 2020.

The LEED for Cities and Communities Grant Program will provide support to a cohort of local governments pursuing certification under the LEED for Cities and Communities rating system. Applications Due January 31, 2020.

Funding for eligible resiliency planning projects aimed at improving local resilience to climate impacts, including drought, flooding (including sea level rise), extreme heat, and wildfire. Applications Due February 7, 2020.

Transformative Climate Communities Program from the Strategic Growth Council and the Department of Conservation is open. Round 3 of the Transformative Climate Communities funding, with approximately $56.4 million in Implementation Grant funding and $600,000 in Planning Grant funding. Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2020.
