SMA Prep Open House
Thursday, September 6, 2018, 6:25 -7:50 pm

Please join us for the SMA Prep Open House 2018 on the evening of Thursday, September 6th.

Open House information will be sent home with your cadet on Tuesday, September 4th. This form should be completed by your cadet so that you will have their schedule to follow during Open House.

Doors will open at 5:45 pm for our 5:45 pm PTCC meeting. The Open House schedule will begin at 6:25 pm.

Please note that campus parking is limited. Additional parking will be available at Bethel Mennonite Church parking lot (behind Prep on Bethel Ln), and at the Shining Light Church (next door on Fruitville).

Prep PTCC Meeting
Thursday, September 6, 2018 - 5:45 pm

On Friday, August 17th the PTCC o'Fishally welcomed back the parents in carline by giving out snack bags of goldfish crackers and inviting all parents to the PTCC meeting on September 6th at 5:45 pm in the Prep Cafeteria. if anyone is interested in volunteering this year please email the PTCC at PrepPTCC@oursma.org

On Thursday, Sept. 6th from 2:45 to 3:15 SMA Prep will be speaking with the sculptor of the world famous Fearless Girl statue in New York, Kristen Visbal.

Club 28

Club 28 is a leadership club focused on creating and spreading equality. Members actively take part in educating the campus about the different groups that make up our society through hosting various events. Any cadet and staff member is welcome to join the meetings and be a part of the exciting activities we have planned for the year. Our first major event is Character Day on September 26th. Remember to sign up for your Character strength in the google doc!

Club 28 meetings will be held in the Media Center on Tuesdays of the second and third full week of each month from
8:00 - 8:45 am. The schedule differs during months including extended holidays.

Prep Drill Team

Drill team starts in November. New recruits welcomed!

Cadets grow upon the fundamentals of unarmed precision drill and ceremony, focusing on self and team discipline, through the assistance of Prep Captains and SMA High drill team cadets. This is a competitive team competing against high school teams at the start of the new year.

November:
6th and 8th - Clinics
13th and 15th - Tryout
20th - no practice (Thanksgiving week)
27th - Mandatory parent meeting and practice begins (T/TH)

Ducks Unlimited Club

Ducks Unlimited will meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 4:30-5:30. Our first meeting will be Wednesday Sept. 12.

Cost to join is $35. Students will research and explore our local wetland through projects, volunteering, and a camping trip.


Community Service Opportunity
September 22
8:30-11:30 am

Join us at the Celery Fields located at 6893 Palmer Blvd., Sarasota on Saturday, September 22nd from 8:30-11:30 am.

Improve Celery Fields Regional Stormwater Facility by weeding, pruning, removing nuisance exotic plants and picking up trash.

Bring loppers or hand pruners, gloves, a hat, sunglasses, water, bug spray and sunscreen.

Wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes, such as hiking boots or sneakers.

Enrollment Information Meetings
8:30-9:30 AM

Please share with neighbors and friends that are interested in their child attending SMA Prep that our Enrollment Information Meetings start promptly at 8:30 AM and end by 9:30 AM. Let them know to bring their inquiring student to hear directly from Prep Cadets about campus life at the Prep.

The first meeting date is on Wednesday: September 12. No reservation is needed. Please share with any interested family, friends, and neighbors!

Calling all volunteers! Please contact Betty Bultemeier or Kathy Simon if you are interested in helping serve lunch to our Prep cadets! Register on the Volunteers Count computer at any Sarasota County School or at The Landings.

Students should bring their homework, an assignment, or their textbook with math related questions to Lunch Bunch and Renaissance Math. If attending lunch bunch, students may bring their lunch from home or purchase a lunch from the cafeteria. If they need to purchase a lunch, they should ask either SMA-CPT Clancy or SMA-MAJ Dobbert for a pass to leave the cafeteria.

Rise and Run 5K
February 16, 2019

Raiders Rise and Run 5K and sponsorship and registration is up on the main website. It is open for donors, sponsors or to register for the run on February 16, 2019. Please contact Coach Trecartin with any questions.
Before-School Care Program

We are pleased to announce that our before-school care program rates will remain the same for the upcoming school year. You may complete this form along with your payment to reserve a space for you child. Payment can be made using a credit card in our school office during office hours. More information about the program will be available during the August information meetings and 6th grade orientation.

After-School Care Program

SMA Prep partners with The Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota to provide after-school care through the Lee Wetherington Club location at 3100 Fruitville Rd. Transportation is provided by SMA Prep for students with confirmed registration in the program. Sign up for this program is done directly with the Boys and Girls Club but transportation spaces are limited. Transportation sign up will be handled during the August information meetings and 6th grade orientation.
Junior Raiders Tryouts
December 10-14

Jr. Raiders tryouts will be December 10-14 from 4:30-6:00 pm.
SMA Board Meeting
September 13, 2018

The next SMA Board of Directors' meeting will be Thursday, 13 September 13 at 4:30 pm at the SMA prep Band Room.
Gently-Used Clothes Closet

Uniform donations are greatly appreciated throughout the year. This allows us to continue offering a selection of sizes at a reduced cost of $7 per item. Please bring items you wish to donate to the office during office hours.

We are taking appointments for anyone wanting to purchase a gently-used uniform. Please call our office at 941-877-7737 to make your appointment.
