SCHOOL LUNCHES

School lunches are underway! The October menu will come home in family folders two weeks before they are due. Please remember that lunches are pre-ordered one week before they are delivered so lunch forms need to be turned IN on time.

If your child forgets their lunch, they will be provided with an emergency lunch.  This will include:  uncrustable, chips and a drink.  Your tuition express account will be charged $4.25 for the lunch.

Lunches are not billed until the end of the month so the students can try the lunch items and decide if they like them.  Little taste buds sometimes think they will like something and then don't.  If that is the case, email Ms. Patti at [email protected] or call her at 558-9343 Ext. 118 and she will take it off your child's order.  In addition, if you would like to add an item to your child's menu, you can do that too.

Middle school students are permitted to use the microwave in the Narthex to re-heat (not cook) their lunches.  This should take between 30 seconds and one minute to prevent a long line.

WATER BOTTLES
Don't forget to send your child with a water bottle every day to school.

If your child forgets their water bottle, they may use the water fountains or purchase a water bottle for 50 cents from the school office.

Please put 50 cents in your child's pencil case for this emergency.

Exact change only please.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

We collect Box Tops all year long.  A labeled sandwich bag will be sent home in family folders for your convenience several times a year. We raised over $1100 last year thanks to Box Tops so keep on clipping!

EARLY SIGN OUT

Please refrain from signing out your children after 2 pm unless you have an appointment. The end of the day is as important as the beginning of the day, so children should stay in class.

MEDICATIONS

ALL MEDICATIONS brought to school must be in their original containers and labeled with the student's name in permanent marker. In addition, for medicine to be dispensed a Medicine Authorization Form must be completed in the school office.

NO MEDICATIONS should be left in student backpacks. This poses a danger to other children.

Every Thursday your Family Folder from the school office will come home.  Please feel free to decorate the cover with pictures and artwork and make it your own.  All school paperwork will be included in this folder to prevent a trickle of papers throughout the week.  Please return the folder and its contents back to school on Friday or the following Monday so it may be sent home the following week  on Thursday reloaded with materials.

In addition, if you own a small business or would like to distribute flyers for an event please stop by the office to get it included in family folders.

    YEARBOOK PHOTOS

Students will have their yearbook picture taken on Wednesday, September 19th.  We ask that all students wear their BURGUNDY

uniform shirts  for these photos.   If your student doesn't have a burgundy shirt we will put one on them the morning of the photo.

 RECYCLE BIN
FOC continues  to be environmentally conscious by recycling paper.

What do we recycle?
*Clean Newspaper  *Phone Books  *Soft Books  *Cereal Boxes  *Construction Paper  *Office Paper  *Magazines  *Mixed Paper

The bin is located at the back of the  parking lot, near the soccer field.

Please help the earth while helping FOC at the same time.  Proceeds from the recycle company go to our student council.  Student council uses the money for pep rallies, recess equipment, and other fun items for all FOC students to enjoy.

Save the environment and help FOC earn cash!

If you recycle, please break down your boxes before putting them in the  bin. *

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING

Mrs. Paloma-Ho, our computer teacher, recommends calling this company if you have electronics to recycle.  They will even pick up the electronics at your home.

 THANK YOU SAFETY PATROL

Please  be aware of the Safety Patrol students when you are pulling up to car line in your car.  Cars should keep a safe distance from the students and obey their commands when they put out their hands for you to stop or proceed in line.

Take a moment to thank the fifth graders who are aiding our students with arrival and dismissal.  Our safety patrol perform a very important job at the school.

  INTERNET SAFETY @ FOC

Family of Christ Christian School has put an internet filter in place for every computer on our network.  The "Student" log-in ID is set at an age-appropriate school setting and has the highest blocked categories of content.

In computer class,  internet safety is discussed throughout the

school year.  There is an activity called "Cyber 5" that

students in Kindergarten through fifth grade watch.  The link is:

http://www.abcya.com/cyber_five_internet_safety.htm

Afterwards, there is a discussion on ways to stay safe on the internet and how to behave on the internet.  As Christian students, the Fruits of the Spirit  qualities are stressed as well as their internet manners. They should behave just like being face-to-face with someone in a conversation.

For middle school students, we discuss technology skills every student should have and this includes Netiquette (Internet Etiquette) and Internet Safety and Security.

MORNING DROP OFF
Elementary parents please be mindful that middle school starts at 8:10 am.  Middle School students are being dropped off in car line between 8 and 8:10 am and may be late for class if the car ahead of them lingers in car line.  Please drop your child off closer to 8:15 am so our middle school students make it to class on time.

PLEASE MIND YOUR MANNERS AT DISMISSAL
For the safety of all, please be cautious when pulling out onto Bruce B. Downs. Larger vehicles, please be considerate of smaller vehicles.  Please be mindful of the line of sequence and
wait for your turn to merge into traffic.

As always, cars may turn right and do a u-turn at the light.

Parenting In A Digital Age
Thank you Dr. Rebecca "Becky" Guagliardo, PsyD. for the  presentation last month.  Her presentation, "Parenting In A Digital Age," revealed strategies for putting technology in its propler place.  There was a full house that day and  parents  commented that it was very informative.

The school would love to continue to provide workshops for parents on various topics.  If there is a topic you would like to see addressed, please reply to this email.

 SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Thank you families for making our book fair such a great success!  Everyone enjoyed coming in the morning and looking at the books.

A special shout out to Lori Kwilecki and Adrienne Schaberg for chairing this event.

Your Family of Christ PTL will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, September 4th at 8:35 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  All are welcome to join us as we discuss upcoming events for the school year.  Christin Behrens([email protected]) will also be holding her Night of Knights informational meeting at this time.  We have all kinds of volunteer opportunities and fun things in store for our students, so come be a part of it!  PTL meetings also count toward your twenty family volunteer hours, so don't forget to log your time in the Volunteer Log.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, the minutes for the meeting will be in the front of the Volunteer Log the following week.  We hope to see you there!

With best regards,

MEET OUR NEW TEACHING ASSISTANT

Meet our new assistant for Kindergarten, Jennifer Smith (Mrs. Jenn).

Jennifer and her husband David have been married almost 17 years, and have a 12 year old son named Josiah. Josiah also joined FOC this year as a 7th grader.

The Smith family moved to Wesley Chapel this summer to launch a new church in the Tampa Bay area.

David is the Lead Pastor of The Root Church, an author, and a lover of all things golf and Gator football. Jenn is a musician and Worship Leader, and enjoys writing Bible curriculum for children. Josiah loves playing the guitar, riding his bike, and playing video games with his Dad.

The Smith family is excited to serve the kids of Family of Christ School!
