Studio Artist Angela Romero has a history talk and walking tour in September:

September 9th - Pedro Famous: San Pedro in Pop Culture at Inner Harmony Yoga ( 579 W. 9th St .), 2p. This month's presentation centers around San Pedro's relationship with popular culture, whether on location or homebred. Tickets $10 and space is extremely limited, please reserve by calling (310) 808-7800.



September 30th - Downtown Art & Architecture Walking Tour at 10am. Learn all about the public art and hidden architectural gems throughout downtown San Pedro with historian. Tickets $15 and space is limited. A second tour will be offered Sunday Sept. 30th. Call (310) 808-7800 to reserve. 

Studio Artist Leah Shane Dixon is offering guitar tutoring and has openings for San Pedro area students on Mondays. $40 an hour for one student, $60/hour for two. Steel string acoustic or electric. References available.

A gallery talk will be held on September 11th at 1pm by Studio Artist Phoebe Barnum as part of a show at the El Camino College Art Gallery, In the Beginning.

The exhibition runs though September 20th with an opening reception on September 6th, 7 - 9pm.

Community Classes
An exhibition of visual art and performances by participants of its educational community. The show reflects a breadth of exploration from children’s drawing, painting, and ceramics to personal selections by seasoned faculty working in various media.  A Stone’s Throw refers to the site’s close proximity to the sea and the spontaneous momentum of creativity that occurs on the Angels Gate Cultural Center campus.

Drawing on her Native American ancestry, Laurie Steelink curates her show to combine photographs, paintings, drawings, and video, with ephemera, artworks and photographs from her family’s collection.

New Hula Classes
Hula Halau ‘O Hoanui has grown from a small group of friends dancing in each others backyards to a fully fledged hula school. Under the direction of Tia and the Alaka’i(leaders), we are having an open enrollment throughout the month of September. Polynesian lessons for all kids and adults. New Classes:
Beginner Keiki(kids) Sundays at 11:00am Beginner Wahine(women) Wednesdays at 6:00pm

Mindfulness Meditation
In the Sunday morning meditation class, held every other Sunday from 9-10:30am in Building H, we are exploring the meditation practice and teachings presented in the book Wisdom Rising: Journey into the Mandala of the Empowered Feminine, by author and teacher Lama Tsultrim Allione. Lama Allione is a prominent American woman teacher within Tibetan Buddhism, the founder of the Tara Mandala Retreat Center in Colorado, In Wisdom Rising, she presents a practice for meditators of all faiths based in the dakini - or feminine power - principle, and revolving around the mandala, a geometric design representing inner balance. 

All activities are open to anyone, you do not have to have read the book - everyone welcome! Suggested donation is $5. More information LaMeditation@earthlink.net .
Community
The concert venue is a hundred year old access tunnel leading to the Leary Gun Battery. Holding our Fortnight Concerts Series midway through the tunnel avails us to a "uniquely intimate space" that works harmoniously with instruments and vocality.
September 7: Harold Greene will open the concert series, creating music on the fly by playing the Chapman Stick and other instruments, with the aid of a loop pedal and percussion implements.
September 21: Chuck Alvarez , the San Pedro based guitarist/singer/songwriter with roots in blues-rock, will perform with his acoustic trio.
October 5: Fred Schreuders' Trio holds down the fort with his jazz guitar and storytelling.
October 19: Windy Barnes Farrell who travels the world sharing her gift, will bring the Calvary home with her vocals ranging from Jazz to Pop, to R&B and Gospel.

Performances: 7:30pm -9:30pm 
Tickets purchased in advance: $30 per concert. $100 per person for full 4-concert series.
