| Today is the first day of Lent, also known as Ash Wednesday. As we begin the season, I want to highlight a few opportunities for spiritual reflection, one of the hallmarks of the days between now and Easter. The first two involve the opportunities that I am offering.
 I will be leading a group through This is Your Life: a Lenten Journey. This devotional and reflective experience, which begins today, invites us to visit our past and reflect on aspects of where we've been to help us fully know and appreciate who we are today. This self-introspection is essential in this season. It goes beyond merely looking at where we've fallen short and focusing on penitence alone. A more extensive process of self-discovery helps us remember that we are complex beings who aren't "done yet," who have much to be thankful for, and also recognize places where our lives need healing and reconciliation. The introduction to the first week is included below.

Join us for weekly worship
at Christ Church. Holy Eucharist worship services take place on Saturday at 5:30 pm at St. Ignatius Chapel, on Demere Road, and on Sunday at 8:00 am, 9:15 am (services in both historic Christ Church and the Parish Hall), and 11:15 am at Christ Church, Frederica. Kidurgy, our Liturgy of the Word for younger children, takes place during the 9:15 am worship service at Christ Church.

| Lenten Contemplative Group |
 There's a difference between knowing about God and knowing God. Contemplative practices help us know God. Through prayer, worship, scripture, meditation, and silence, we experience God's presence and are healed, renewed and transformed by God's love. Our group format includes chanting, centering prayer, and lectio divina. We enter and leave in silence. All are welcome to join us. While this group is being formed primarily within the Christian faith, contemplation is practiced by most faith traditions. If you're new to contemplative practice and have never practiced centering prayer and/or lectio divina before, no problem. Call Randy to schedule a 15-minute orientation before your first meeting. | Wednesday Lenten Study |
 Beginning Wednesday, March 4 and concluding on April 8, Fr. Tom will lead This Is Your Life: A Lenten Journey. The study will focus on the different periods of our lives, through the lens of faith. The sessions will begin each week at 1:00 pm in the Parish Hall, with lunch at 12:30 pm for those who can attend. | Adult Sunday Morning Class |
The Adult Sunday class is starting a new book, Adam Hamilton's, The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life.
The study begins on the first Sunday in Lent, March 1 and will continue through Palm Sunday, April 5. The class meets in the Adult Sunday school room in the Parish Hall at 10:30 am on Sunday mornings.
How do we walk with Christ - daily follow him, grow in him, and faithfully serve him? In the Gospels, Jesus modeled for us the Christian spiritual life. The apostles taught it in their writings. And the Church has, through the last 2,000 years, sought to pursue this Christian spiritual life. Deepen your walk with Christ as we explore the five essential practices of worship, study, serving, giving, and bearing witness to our faith. All adults are welcome. Books will be available in the CCF Book Shop.

| Flower Guild Training To Be Offered |

The Christ Church Flower Guild recently held a series of training classes, in which participants learned many of the important principles of floral arrangement. Youth and Children's Activities
Christ Church Youth Group for our youth in 6th-12th grades meets every Sunday from 6:30-8:00 pm in the parish house. We have a meal, play games, and engage in scripture, tradition, discussion and outreach. | Pancakes at the Pier |
A HUGE THANK-YOU
to all who helped make this year's Pancakes at the Pier a huge success on Shrove Tuesday! The rain did nothing to dampen everybody's joyful spirit! Our decorating, cooking, serving, entertainment and clean-up teams, along with our industrious friends from Holy Nativity, worked very hard to make the festive evening a happy affair for the many, many folks who attended. The lively crowd went through stacks of pancakes and sausages as fast our cooks could flip and serve them, and everybody enjoyed the parade, led by Rich Wagner, Dan Bevilacqua, AnneMarie Stirewalt and Col. | Safeguarding God's Children |
 The Episcopal Church is committed to providing a safe and loving environment for our children and youth to come and explore their faith and spirituality. One of the ways we do our best to accomplish this is training our children and youth workers, as well as our church leaders in the prevention of sexual abuse happening with any children trusted in our care. Mother Katie will be leading Safeguarding training classes for all who need to take the course on March 5, from 10:00 - 11:30 am or 5:30 - 7:00 pm. This scholarship is available to graduating seniors or those who have graduated from high school and want to further their education. The cacophony of an all-rhythm-section orchestra rang out cheerfully in the Christ Church Parish Hall on Monday, February 24, as a group of very special folks enjoyed a Mardi Gras party sponsored by SOAR. Christ Church Music Director Kathleen Turner and her husband Te Turner led the music and the parade that put a lot of smiles on a lot of happy faces! Plans are already in the works for another Mardi Gras party and parade next year. Consider joining the fun!

| Backpack Buddies - Packapalooza! |
 
Wednesday, March 4 will be the launch of Packapalooza, where our Olympic-class Backpack Buddies team will pick up food, set up, and pack hundreds of bags by noon.
Those wanting to help set up, as well as pack, can come to the parish hall at 9:15 am that Wednesday, and those who only want to pack may come at 10:30 am. Many hands not only make light work, but help us set the land speed record for food bag packing.

| Girls on the Run Fundraiser |
 Christ Church is supporting our local chapter of Girls on the Run by offering our parish hall as they host Luna Fest, a short-film film festival that celebrates and showcases women in the film industry. Luna Fest will take place on Saturday, March 7, 3:00 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door. Films are unrated, but Luna Fest recommends 14+ for viewers. Total runtime is about two hours. Refreshments will be served!

 Ellen and David Abell and Kathleen and Te Turner, of Christ Church Frederica, are organizing a trip to the Atlanta Opera to see Porgy and Bess at 8:00 pm, on Friday, March 13, 2020. The performance is being conducted by the Abells' son David Charles Abell, a conductor of opera, symphony and music theater. He lives in London and Provincetown, MA, and performs all over the world.  We are offering a Dodge Society information session on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Attorney Rees Sumerford and Fr. Tom will share information about the Dodge Society and the basics of legacy giving. Christ Church is working on wellness this year through Wellness 2020: I Will with God's Help. Wellness 2020 will include monthly initiatives for an aspect of wellness, all of which flow from our need to love God with with our heart, soul, mind and strength.
 This month, try setting a goal to save a certain amount or give an additional amount of money away by intentionally curbing spending on something that is a non-essential. It doesn't have to be a lot. It might be one less espresso a week, or not eating out as much, or curbing our shopping impulse. Be aware of the role of money in our lives and how it is truly a treasure to be handled with good stewardship.
