Honor America: For several years during Labor Day weekend,
Waterchase Golf Club has hosted
Folds of Honor's Patriot Golf Day. Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service members. "We participate and collect donations through Labor Day weekend," said Jason Heitschmidt, GM at Waterchase. "We give away a Titleist golf bag in a drawing from everyone who has donated, whether they are playing golf or not." Folds of Honor chose golf for the recreation, Mother Nature, camaraderie ... and fun. Jason likes fun and thinks you would enjoy this round of golf for four.

Raised voices for this toast: Fort Worth Opera is looking to break and make bread with a world premiere opera May 1-3-5 during FWOpera Festival. Part of the alternative venue series, Companionship, composed by Rachel Peters, will debut at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, and hopefully the ticket price includes admission to the beautiful setting. The story centers around a woman obsessed with dough.

25-year trek: Glen Hahn of IDI, involved with the Fort Worth Police Bike Support Group since its inception 25 years ago this October, says $3 million has been raised in that time. Outfitting an officer is approximately $1,900 for clothing and accessories, and $1,700 for a Volcanic police mountain bike. Fort Worth has more than 200 certified bike officers.
4+ months to FLIRT: TexRail from downtown to DFW International Airport is less than five months away. Trinity Metro estimates 8,000 riders on (probably) 72 daily trips during 2019. The train -- Fast Light Innovative Regional Train (FLIRT) with a top speed of 70 mph -- is 266 feet long, 13.5 tall and 9.25 wide. There are seats for 229 and standing room capacity of 488. There are bicycle racks and overhead luggage racks. USB ports at every seat. |

Fore! Topgolf has become a big competitor to traditional outdoor courses for the non-profit fundraiser business. Topgolf sales sensation Candice Stinnett chipped in with some reasons she hears: 1) Half the time to play; 2) Reduced time to plan event by committees; 3) No rainouts; 4) No skill required; 5) More energy, better setup for mingling; 6) No baby sitters needed (bring the kids); and 7) Can take up to 612 players.

 Happy birthday: Frost Bank is 150 this year, started in San Antonio in 1868 by Thomas Claiborne Frost, a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate States Army. It has just trotted out a new tagline - OPT FOR OPTIMISM.
A toothy explanation: Today is National Tooth Fairy Day, according to monthologist John Fletcher. Early Norse tradition suggests that when a child lost a baby tooth, it was buried to spare the child from hardships in the next life. In Spain, the most well known dental character is Ratoncito Perez, appearing in cartoons and with a museum dedicated to him in Madrid. In American, the Walt Disney Co. made the fairies famous. According to a Dec. 2017 Delta Dental survey, the average American child receieved $4.13 for a lost tooth.
