Mercer Island Goes Green
BikeshareBikeshare Pilot Program Adds Hub Locations
Rental LimeBikes at the Mercer Island Park&Ride; click for program details
In mid-July, the City launched a 3-month pilot bikeshare program with LimeBike, offering a rental fleet of 25 electric-assist bicycles available to any rider with an account, 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.

Although the bikes may be ridden anywhere, including off-Island, they are restocked daily at key locations ("hubs") to allow some level of predictability. After researching possible expansions, and based on requests from the public, the City is adding two new hubs serving the Mid-Island and South-Island areas:
  • The MI Congregational Church (4545 Island Crest Way)
  • The South End Shopping Center, adjacent to Pioneer Park, at the corner of 84th Avenue SE and SE 68th Street
Bicycles can be returned to a hub, or parked in any legal, public location, and must not block access or create safety hazards. Standard E-Bike fees apply: $1 to unlock, then 15 cents/minute to ride. Try it today! Learn more at: www.mercergov.org/Bikeshare

Music in the Park; click to learn more
The Parks and Recreation Department and the City's Arts Council are pleased to present the third concert of the FREE summer Music in the Park series. This week, it's The Mighty Dreadful bluegrass band, on Thursday, August 9, from 7:00-8:30pm at Mercerdale Park. Learn more here.

Also, for the next several weeks, the City's popular Shakespeare in the Park program presents The Merry Wives of Windsor and King Lear at the outdoor amphitheater in Luther Burbank Park. Weekday shows start at 7:00pm and weekend matinees start at 2:00pm.
MICAMercer Island Center for the Arts Survey
Click to take a brief MICA survey online
Over the past several months, supporters of a proposed Mercer Island Center for the Arts (MICA) have been holding conversations with local residents about their experiences with arts and culture. Input has been gathered from artists and arts leaders, parents, students, business owners, teachers, community leaders, and many others via individual interviews, small group discussions, and two community-wide visioning sessions.

Now MICA is asking anyone with an opinion on these topics to fill out a brief, online survey to help shape the future of arts and culture on Mercer Island. Take the survey today (through August 20).
SE_40thSE 40th Multi-Modal Project Update
An example of a previous grinding and paving project on Island Crest Way (ICW)
In mid-June, multi-modal improvements began on SE 40th Street from Island Crest Way (ICW) to Gallagher Hill Road to add curbs, sidewalks, and bicycle lanes on both sides of the roadway and address other safety or infrastructure issues.  The project is part of the City's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and uses funding partially from grants to address one of the two remaining "missing links" on a continuous North-South Island bicycle route long-awaited by the community.

At this time, all old utility poles have been removed and concrete pours for new curb and sidewalk are well underway. Asphalt patching in the vicinity is complete, and asphalt paving (including repairs and grinding) is occurring this week. Substantial work is expected to be completed before school begins in September; other chip sealing will occur simultaneously elsewhere on the Island.
