From the Interim Rector.....
Congratulations to the Rev. Allison English and to Calvary Episcopal Church for their mutual call to serve one another!
In January, you were told that someone had accepted a call to come here, and that she would begin on July 1. Then you received a message that your new rector has a name and a place. Calvary's next rector will be the Rev. Allison English, who currently serves at All Saints' Church in Beverly Hills, California. And then, last Saturday, you found that the name has a person attached, that she is real, and many of you met her at a wonderful reception and were able to speak with her.
From the looks of delight and the smiles of people in the room, and hearing Allison speak about her excitement in coming here and her eagerness to speak separately with each individual, I felt a sense of pride and joy that Calvary has accomplished its goal of calling a priest who will so ably and lovingly serve the congregation. Great work, Profile Committee and Search Committee!
And special thanks to the chair of both committees, Eric Landen, for his guidance through these many months of discernment. Working with the input from the whole congregation, these committees put together an accurate profile of the church that matched and attracted the interest of someone like Allison, who possesses the skills, experience, and passions that will bring Calvary into the future.
As for me, I came as interim rector with one overriding goal: to help Calvary to find that perfect priest. I am so happy that we have accomplished this goal and that the interim time will now move into a time to say goodbye to your temporary shepherd and to welcome your new one.
After consulting with the diocesan staff, I have arranged to leave Calvary at the end of June. June 24 will be my last Sunday here. The following Sunday, July 1, Allison will take over as your celebrant and preacher.
In the meantime, I will be preparing for her arrival with relevant notes and files, and she and I will talk frequently on the phone, so that, when she comes, she will be aware of all of the various traditions, practices, tweaks, and eccentric oddities of this wonderful and glorious place called Calvary Episcopal Church. May God bless all of you as you now embark on this new journey with your rector, the Rev. Allison English!

Exodus Bible Study - most Sundays
We're almost through chapter 13, and pharaoh finally let the Israelites leave Egypt. Or, as we learned, God did not harden pharaoh's heart after the first passover. Pharaoh even asked for God to grant him a blessing. The story continues this Sunday.
