ADI Announces Three New Awards
In addition to the awards for the Judging of Craft Spirits, the Distillery of the Year, Farm Distillery Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, the American Distilling Institute announces three new awards that highlight the spirit that makes the craft distilling community.

The Alchemist Award, 2018
The Alchemist Award for continually bending the creative curve to make new spirit flavors goes to broVo Spirits, of Woodinville, WA. With their broad range of unique products, ranging from Orange Curacao, Falernum, and Douglas Fir liqueurs to Vermouths, broVo Spirits never stops creating. BroVo developed more than a dozen amaro recipes in cooperation with bartenders from around the nation. They have shown the distilling community a new model for working with bartenders in both flavor creation, packaging and marketing. The playful nature of founding partner Mhairi Voelsgen brings even more fun to the business of imbibing.

LostSpirits
Best Distillery Visitor Experience, 2018
Lost Spirits Distillery Co-founders Bryan Davis and Joanne Haruta have always mixed art with their distilled spirits. Their new Los Angeles distillery is a unique experience with an internal "river" where visitors must ride a small boat to reach the tasting room and animatronic birds guide the way. When informed he had received this award, which may potentially lead more visitors to his distillery, Davis commented, "We are going to need a bigger boat."

Best Repurposed Building to a Distillery, 2018
Five Saints Distilling converted a historic firehouse building into a distillery in Norristown, PA. The Humane Fire Engine Co. #1 was chartered in 1852 and moved into the building in 1888. In 1973, the community fought off attempts to turn the property into a parking garage. ADI thinks that a distillery is a much better fate for this historic property.

Sustainability is a massive trend in the drinks industry right now - and rightly so, given the volume of waste bars generate, and the greenhouse gas impact of your typical distillery.
