Ray Llewellyn, CFA Financial Advisor Grand Rapids, MI
Describe your role at ARGI in less than two sentences:
I'm an investment specialist, part of a collaborative team of financial specialists.
Hometown: I grew up in Wyoming, MI, but I was born in Indianapolis, IN.
Mantra:
"If you're standing still, you're going backwards." It's been my motto to look for constant improvement both personally and professionally.
What is the greatest challenge you've had to overcome in your life thus far?
Passing the three levels of the CFA exam was a great challenge I recently overcame. The 300+ hours of self-study for each level was something I had never had to do during my academic career, not to mention doing it with a family.
Where is your favorite place to vacation?
Germany. My mom's entire family lives in Germany and I always love going back and spending time with them.
What is your favorite hobby?
Being a soccer referee is something I have greatly enjoyed. I have enjoyed the lessons I have learned, bonding with my fellow referees and being able to give back to the game I grew up playing.
Are you involved with any charities or non-profits?
I always try to support the MS Society as it's close to my heart with my mom being diagnosed in the 90's.
Number one thing on your bucket list? I'd like to see more of the world, Europe and Asia in particular.
What would you do for a career, if you weren't working at ARGI?
I'm a bit of a sports nut, especially when it comes to Detroit sports: Lions, Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons. I would probably do something related to one of them if I wasn't a Financial Advisor.
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Spend more time defining yourself through your lens and not the lens of others.
How do you define success? For me, success is simply the ratio of talents used to talents received. Are you using your God given talents to all that He has blessed you with?
