DONORS FUND STEAM VISION
We continue to move full STEAM ahead thanks to the generosity of donors who have committed funds for the renovation of the school’s biology, chemistry and physics laboratories. The school has expanded its STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) curriculum, and the laboratories will be updated to reflect state-of-the-art industry standards for presenting current and integrated STEAM curriculum.

GIFTS TO TRANSFORM STUDENT EXPERIENCE
The school has taken a transformational step forward on its promise is to empower young women to achieve their full potential in a diverse, supportive and academically-centered community. The school is hiring staff with specific skills--an English as a Second Language Specialist and an additional Guidance Counselor--to better serve the immediate and post-graduate academic goals of students.

SCHOOL NEWS
May Crowning: One of the most meaningful traditions at Mercy High School, and a Catholic ritual, is the school’s May Crowning. It will be held on May 7 at 7 p.m. in Mercy’s gymnasium, 1501 S. 48 th St. The ceremony honors Mother Mary in the month of May by selecting a May Queen, a senior girl who exemplifies the qualities of Mary, and having her crown Mary’s statue with a circlet of flowers. The May Queen is accompanied by a May Court, which includes representatives from each class.
This year’s May Queen is Madeline Elsasser who is part of a family legacy at Mercy.

Mission Week: Through the coordination of Student Council, the school surpassed its fundraising goal of $16,000 to build a school/community center in Cameroon and provide feminine hygiene products for young girls. $19,472.12 was collected—a new record. The total was announced on March 27, following the school’s Mission Week.

Fine & Performing Arts : The Fine and Performing Arts departments are having a busy couple of weeks approaching, showcasing the talent and hard work within Music, Art, Theatre, and Dance.
The Spring play had a great run last weekend and an assembly will be held during school on Monday, April 23 rd , where each department will have a short performance or presentation and artwork will be displayed.
Mercy High Singers will compete at the District Music Contest on Friday, April 20 at Platteview High School. The students will sing as a large group, in a treble chorus as well as in four senior-led ensembles, eight solos and two duets. The Music Concert on April 24 at 7:00 p.m. will feature some of the pieces that they perform at Districts. Also included are students from guitar classes and several other solo and group performances. The Spring Dance Concert is Sunday, April 29 at 6 pm. It will feature four staff dances and seven student-choreographed pieces that will utilize ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop technique.
Award winning artwork from Intro to Art, Drawing and Painting, and 3D Design students will be on display in Franey Hall from Monday, April 23 until Sunday, April 29 and during the concert and recital.

Sports: Track and Field students have been setting personal records. Soccer won the Burke Tournament the 7th year in a two. Maggie Moyer is the first Mercy athlete to be invited to run in the Nebraska Track Festival.
PHONATHON
Students, parents, alumnae and staff are making calls to supporters this week. One donor sent Sr. Delores a nice note with her gift. It said," I am a 1940's graduate of St. John's. My Mercy education was fantastic!"

If you are grateful for your Mercy education consider a gift. Help another deserving student receive a Mercy education.
