With the current Coronavirus Disease-2019 (Covid-19) outbreak in China, many living in the United States are worried about how it might impact America, which has caused misunderstanding and misinformation in and about the Chinese community. In line with the goals of promoting community health and enhancing cultural awareness, the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) has formed the Covid-19 Relief Community Education Committee.

The committee members consist of ACA’s board and staff, experienced local medical professionals such as family doctors, counselors, nutritionists, pharmacists, and those from Wayne State University (WSU), Eastern Michigan University (EMU), and First Aid onSite Foundation. We will also be partnering with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to provide accurate information regarding new developments.

The purpose of the committee is to better serve the special needs of the local community during the Covid-19 outbreak and development in the following ways: providing official information and developments about the outbreak to the Chinese community; providing health-promotion and disease-prevention education and psychological counseling; helping reduce public misunderstandings of cultural differences; and providing individuals referrals and consultation when urgent needs arise.

The Association of Chinese Americans believes that together we will be able to overcome any obstacles this disease presents and get through this challenging time, becoming an even stronger and healthier community in the process.
