Dea
r St. John's Community,
It has been a full day. There were a lot of meetings (all virtual) and I am happy to share with you that the staff at St. John's is feeling very inspired to keep this community connected in new and exciting ways.
That said, I am finding that there are frequent moments during this time when I ask myself if I have done enough. You may be asking yourself the same question, as we are all dealing with new and mind-boggling challenges.
That is when I need one of my favorite prayers, which I will share with you now. It is a prayer for saying at Compline, with is the service said at the very end of the day. It always gives me deep peace and perspective. I hope it will be a blessing for you as well. (It is a good prayer to read slowly.)
Lord it is night.
The night is for stillness.
Let us be still in the presence of God.
It is night after a long day.
What has been done has been done;
What has not been done has not been done.
Let it be.
The night is dark.
Let our fears of the darkness of the world
and of our own lives
rest in you.
The night is quiet.
Let the quietness of your peace enfold us,
all dear to us,
and all who have no peace.
The night heralds the dawn.
Let us look expectantly to a new day,
new joys,
new possibilities.
In your name we pray. Amen.
