Week of the Young Child
The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, and their families. It's fun-filled week with hands-on collaborative activities encouraging movement and healthy lifestyles through music, food, and art.

This year, pre-kindergarten, junior kindergarten, and kindergarten students participated in Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work-Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. Our students enjoyed dancing with their classmates, making "friendship mix," and a visit from the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The week capped off with an adorable craft and families participating with their students in our annual Pitch Burst! It's been a great week celebrating our littlest Eagles!

CTP4 Testing for Grades 3--   8
As a reminder, our standardized testing will take place the week of April 23. Though preparations begin on Monday, the actual testing will begin on Tuesday, April 24, and conclude on Friday, April 27.

Please make sure that your student gets plenty of rest and begins each testing day with a good breakfast. We also ask that you should send a nutritious snack with your child, as students will have a break time for that purpose. Please make every effort to have your child here on the testing days. There will be only two makeup days for each of the tests we are administering.

Testing will begin at the beginning of school. Please mark this starting time, and make every attempt to arrive to school on time. Tardy students will need to remain in the front office and miss the first portion of the test.

Bananas Over Reading
At Fairmont Private Schools, we know that reading is definitely not monkey business ---   it's beneficial to all students and is also a tremendous amount of FUN!

Join us at Fairmont Anaheim Hills on Saturday, May 5, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm for a wonderful family event filled with engaging story time, carnival games, snow cones, face painting, and an exciting opportunity for your child to take a photo with PBS KIDS character Curious George, as seen on PBS SoCal!

Because we believe that every child deserves to go bananas over reading, we are asking each family to bring a new book to the event to donate to the Children's Hospital of Orange County Family Resource Center. Space is limited, so RSVP today! Can't make the event? You can still participate in our book drive to benefit CHOC patients. Simply bring your donation of a new book to any of our Fairmont campuses.

Fairmont Prep Robotics Students Safely Build upon Team Success

As the FIRST® Robotics Competition Championship is currently underway in Houston, it is a good time to revisit the 2017 ---      2018 robotics season. Your Fairmont Prep FRC team competed in the Los Angeles Regional and in the Ventura Regional in March. We ranked 29th in LA and 33rd in Ventura.

At the Ventura competition, we qualified for the quarterfinals but were defeated in the second round by only 10 points. This is significant because we lost to the Spartatronics team, who won that regional and moved on to the world competition. No other team in the elimination rounds came that close in scoring against them.

It was a great adventure, and what seemed, at first, to be an easy challenge turned out to be technically difficult. All teams experienced numerous breakdowns, and life in the pits was stressful at times. On a positive note, a big congratulations goes to our safety captains, freshmen Elisabeth Feng and Emmaly Nguyen, who brought back three awards:

  • Safety Person of the Day (Los Angeles)
  • Safety Pit Award (Ventura)
  • Runner-up for the Safety Award in Ventura

Safety is a continuous and constant concern of FIRST, and these recognitions are highly regarded by all teams. The season will end with the team building components for future robots, including the vision system (autonomous vehicle) the students developed during winter break. Great job to all of the Fairmont Prep FRC Husketeers!
