PROJECT UPDATE

The Brent Spence Bridge Maintenance 2017 project is transitioning to Phase 2. We have multiple updates today that will affect travel over the bridge this weekend and in the coming weeks.
Please be sure to read all updates below.

REMINDER: SOUTHBOUND I-71/75 WILL BE REDUCED TO ONE LANE ACROSS THE BRIDGE THIS WEEKEND
Beginning after 9 p.m. tonight through 5 a.m. Monday morning, July 24, weather permitting, travel on I-71/75 SOUTHBOUND will be reduced to one lane across the Brent Spence Bridge. During this time, crews will move barriers and re-stripe lanes to direct drivers to the outside lanes of the upper deck (the two center lanes will be closed). Two-lane travel will resume in time for Monday morning rush hour. Once the Phase 2 traffic pattern is in place, changing lanes on the bridge will not be possible. Drivers need to plan ahead and know which lane to be in before they reach the bridge (see Phase 2 Lane Configuration maps below).

STARTING SUNDAY: NORTHBOUND TRAVEL LANES WILL BE REDUCED TO ONE LANE AS CREWS TRANSITION TO THE PHASE 2 CONFIGURATION
As early as noon Sunday, July 23, through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 24, weather permitting, travel on I-71/75 NORTHBOUND will be reduced to one lane across the Brent Spence Bridge while crews move barriers and re-stripe lanes to direct drivers to the outside lanes on the lower deck (the two center lanes will be closed). Two-lane travel will resume in time for Monday morning rush hour. Once the Phase 2 traffic pattern is in place, changing lanes will not be possible. Drivers need to plan ahead and know which lane to be in to reach their destinations before lane closures begin near the 12th Street exit (Exit 191) in Covington (see Phase 2 Lane Configuration maps below)

THREE TEMPORARY RAMP CLOSURES WILL REOPEN BY 5 A.M. MONDAY MORNING, JULY 24
The following temporary ramp closures in Ohio will be reopened by 5 a.m. Monday morning:
  • I-75 South / US 50 East ramp to 2nd Street (Exit 1A, southbound)

  • 5th Street exit ramp from I-71/75 North (Exit 1C, northbound)

  • US 50 West exit ramp from I-71/75 North (Exit 1D, northbound)

TRAVEL WITH CAUTION THROUGH WORK AREAS; WATCH FOR CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES
Construction vehicles entering and leaving work areas must use the same travel lanes as other vehicles. Please use extra caution while traveling through work areas and be alert to the movement of construction vehicles and crews working in close proximity to travel lanes.

KNOW YOUR LANE: ONCE ON THE BRIDGE, DRIVERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE LANES
During Phase 2, the two center lanes on each deck will be closed and travel will be limited to the outer two lanes. Drivers need to plan ahead and know which lane they need to be in  BEFORE THEY REACH THE BRIDGE. Once on the bridge, drivers will not be able to change lanes.
