ATA Gymnastics Newsletter                           August 2018

August is Rolling Month

Stop, Drop & Roll...No, it's not a fire drill! August is Rolling Month and we are so excited to get it rolling along:) During this month, every class will spend some extra time focusing on skills/drills that involve rolling...straddle forward rolls, pike back rolls, handstand chest roll down, etc. Students will enjoy learning new & fun variations of the skills they have already been learning in class. There will also be a big emphasis on safety falls, which teach kids how to roll out of skills in a way that will protect their head, neck and arms. We are looking forward to a fabulous month! Time to roll on in to Rolling Month!
ABC's & 123's

ATA is getting into the school spirit! During the weeks of Aug. 13th - Aug. 25th, ATA's Intro tumblers (4-6 years) will perform their gymnastics skills, while having fun with letters, numbers and shapes! It will be a creative and challenging way of reinforcing the concepts they are learning in the classroom.

Progressing at ATA

At ATA we do formal skills testing once every 3 months. We just completed our most recent testing during the month of July. To see your child's progress, you can log into ATA's Customer Portal site. Here are the simple steps to follow:
1. Once logged into the portal, click on the My Students tab. 2. Select which student (if more than 1) you wish to view. 3. Click the Students Skills/Levels Tab under Miscellaneous.
If you have any questions, give us a call or stop by our customer service desk.
Please keep in mind that once a student has mastered all of the skills within a level, he or she can be promoted to the next level at any time. (They do not need to wait for the next program wide testing week).

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

This past month provided the stage for the final chapter of Team ATA's 2017-2018 Team Season!  Everyone really shined at the 2018 Acrobatic National Championships which was held in Greensboro, NC, July 3-7 th .  ATA's athletes competed against more than 600 athletes from all over the country.  Everyone performed with excellence. As we prepare for Nationals each season, we hope that all the training and experience of competition and events will pay off with everyone putting their best routines out on the floor, and that's what happened!  We were thrilled that all of our athletes stood on the podium!  ATA brought home a total of 6 medals!  2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze!  Competition was fierce in the many categories our athletes competed in, some with as many as 16 competitors.  We could not be more proud of the results!  Way to go Team ATA!!

Congratulations to our level 8 Mixed Pair, Eshiana Coleman and Jaylen Ivey for being awarded the Glen Sunby Outstanding Performance by a pair or group.  The award considers all athletes in the JO Program levels 8-10 for pair/group of the year!  What an honor to have judges from all over the country single out this pair for their standout presence on the competition floor!  Way to go Pair!  We are so proud of you!!

Congratulations to our Head Coach, Lanie Davis, for being presented Junior Olympic Coach of the Year!  What an honor that Acro Coaches from all over the country were willing to recognize her expertise and commitment to the sport of Acrobatic Gymnastics.  We are honored and privileged to have someone of her caliber here at ATA to develop and nurture excellence in sport and in developing the character of our athletes!  Way to go Lanie!!

Team Manager, Nancy Davis, was humbled to receive the Star Service Award this year!  This prestigious award serves to recognize the years of contribution, service and dedication the recipient has devoted to the sport of Acrobatics. Upon reflection of receiving such a prestigious award, she said, "I was truly humbled to be given an award that has been given out to so many of my own "Acro heros"!

Have a Great Day!
