Coming Next Sunday, April 29th:
Adult Education Hour: "The Grace of Dogs"
Come hear Luther Seminary 's Andy Root discuss his new book: "The Grace of Dogs: A Boy, a Black Lab, and a Father's Search for the Canine Soul, a
fter worship on Sunday, April 29th, 10:50 a.m.
Dr. Root is the Associate Professor and Carrie Olson Baalson Chair of Youth and Family Ministry at Luther. Our PW Book Group will read this book for their May 10th meeting.
Here's some praise for the book:
"Beautifully written, touching and profound, this book makes reasonable what we already sense-that our dogs love in a way that goes much deeper than we think, and that teaches us something about what it means to be human. The Grace of Dogs, written by one of my favorite contemporary theologians, is perfect for dog lovers and those who love them. It will open your eyes to what's really going on between us and our canine family members."
-Nadia Bolz-Weber, author of Accidental Saints
"Like all the best writing (and theology), The Grace of Dogs comes from deep in the author's personal experience. It will make you smile, shed a tear, and nod in recognition. You'll find yourself reflecting on the most wonderful things in life... from the sincerity of a child to the wag of a black lab's tail, from the grace of dogs to the grace of God."
-Brian D. McLaren, author of The Great Spiritual Migration

12" Snowfall?
No problem!
The near-record snowfall last weekend caused many churches in the area to cancel their services on Sunday morning.
We are grateful that First Presbyterian
(with the help of a good snowplow service) was able to open our doors and have morning worship with over 50 people in attendance! Another 45 joined us on Facebook!

Earth Day, April 22nd, 2018
The emphasis for Earth Day 2018 (April 22) is plastic pollution.
We all know how terrible plastic bags are for the environment-they choke wildlife, they don't break down in landfills or in oceans, they
add to our demand for oil
, and they aren't easy to recycle, which is the biggest reason why 90 percent of plastic bags in the U.S. are not recycled. Many cities have banned plastic bags- even Kenya has a ban on them. An easy way to avoid using them is to keep a cloth bag stashed in your purse or car- it can also save you money as some stores will give you a credit for using them.
