Residential options for the ALR
 
The Minister of Agriculture has announced that the Province is considering a new direction for residential flexibility for ALR land owners.  The allowance for both a principal residence and a small secondary residence is now being explored. Read more  
Grant Programs & Asset Management Workshops
 
The Union of BC Municipalities will be hosting workshops across the province this spring focusing on grant programs delivered by UBCM - including the Gas Tax Fund, and Local Government Program Services - and Asset Management in British Columbia. This learning opportunity will be of particular interest to senior staff but could also be of interest to staff involved in grant program administration, delivery, and/or asset management. Read more 
Excellence in Service Delivery
 
The Community Excellence Awards recognize and celebrate UBCM members that demonstrate excellence in meeting the purposes of local government. This week we are highlighting the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, the 2019 winner in the Excellence in Service Delivery Category, for their approach to offering advance polling for the 2018 municipal elections. The 2019 Honourable Mention in this category is City of Surrey and its integrated sustainability education program. Read more 
Provincial Trails Strategy Consultation
 
British Columbians are invited to provide their opinions and ideas about a provincial trails strategy. The intent of the review is to ensure the continued relevance and importance of the trail strategy to First Nations, recreationists, communities, tourism proponents and the province as a whole. Feedback will be accepted until Feb. 28, 2020, at 4 p.m. 
Thermal Energy Systems Review
 
Local governments that own or operate their own thermal energy (TES) may wish to take part in the TES guideline review presently underway by the BC Utilities Commission. Read more
