December's Students of the Month

Twelve high school students from Roxbury High School were named Students of the Month for December.
Teachers nominate students for their performance in any of the eleven departments: Math, Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, World Languages, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, Engineering Design and Technology, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Health/Physical Education. Students can also be selected for the category of Citizenship, Most Improved, and School Spirit.

Rox-THON gets their Flock on
 Flocking is back at Roxbury! It will begin this fall and continue until the ground freezes, before resuming next spring; all weather dependent. While the fundraiser remains the same, the organization bears a new name. Putting more of an emphasis on our local community, Roxbury High School's mini-THON will now be known as Rox-THON. It is the same group of students working towards the same cause, however, a majority of our proceeds will now stay here in Morris County.
Starting this year, donations will go to Goryeb Children's Hospital (Morristown, NJ) and 30% of those proceeds will support pediatric cancer research and medical bills through Four Diamonds (Penn State Children's Hospital). Roxbury High School will also host its 7th Annual event to fight childhood cancer on Friday, March 13, 2020.
"Flocking is super simple! Flocking is when you harmlessly prank your friends by signing up for us to put a flock of plastic flamingo
s on their lawn," explained Captain Holly Van Ness, a senior at the school.
If you would like to flock-a-friend, you can choose how many flamingos you want to migrate to your friend's yard for up to 48 hours. A small flock of only 10 flamingos is only $15, a medium flock of 30 for $25, or you can choose a large flock of 50 flamingos for $35. Roxbury High School's Structural Fabrication and Design Journey
 Follow the new beginnings of the Structural Fabrication and Design program at Roxbury High School with weekly updates on the growth of the program and the work that the students are doing as they explore the human-designed world through the learning of SDF.

RHS Band Barn Night Fundraiser - Jan 28
 Help support the RHS Band by dining to donate!
Join them on Tuesday, January 28th from 5-11 p.m. at the Black River Barn in Randolph. Leave your receipt at the door. Proceeds will help fund the Roxbury High School Band program.

Burgers for Benefits to Support the Kennedy School PTA - Jan 30
 Help support the Kennedy PTA by dining to donate!
The Kennedy PTA will be hosting a Burgers for Benefits
fundraiser at Fuddruckers in Roxbury all day on January 30th. Anyone who comes in and presents the Burgers for Benefits coupon will earn a portion of their check donated back to Kennedy PTA.

RHS Robotics Clothing Drive Fundraiser - Feb 8
 Start your spring cleaning early and help support the RHS Robotics program by donating your new or gently used men, women, and children's clothing, shoes, purses, belts, bed, bath linens, and stuffed animals to the RHS Robotics Clothing Drive Fundraiser on Saturday, February 8th from 9 am to noon at Roxbury High School. Every piece helps! They'll also be accepting bicycles and baby strollers. Please no pillows, books, toys, furniture, appliance, or household items.

Rox-THON Barn Night Fundraiser - Feb 13
Join Rox-THON on Thursday, February 13th at the Black River Barn on Route 10 in Randolph to help raise funds to fight pediatric cancer. Before you leave, leave your receipt at the door and proceeds will go to Goryeb Children's Hospital.
Roxbury High School's Rox-THON is a fundraiser for our fight against pediatric cancer. Experience the gift of the one HUMAN race and its multisensory cultural diversity in CommUNITY.
Gather up your family, friends, clubs, and business to sponsor a booth to represent a country of your background or interest! Then, plaster the booth with all the information, color and creativity that you can with food, fun crafts, music/dance performances and prizes!

K-6 STEAM Expo: Seeds of Sustainability - Register now thru Feb 1
 Calling all Scientists, Engineers, and Earth Savers! Registration is now open for the K-6 STEAM Expo and will remain open until January 15th. This year's expo will be Saturday, March 7, 2020. This year's STEAM Expo theme is
Sustainability: Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies. We want to see projects that touch on sustainability like renewable energy, eco-friendly, gardens/composts, weather, health and wellness, recycling, food/waste, etc.
The mission of the Roxbury STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) EXPO is to motivate and develop the passion of all learners. We support the achievements of our students as they prepare to become leaders and innovators in STEAM and 21st Century Careers.
We are also inviting local businesses and organizations to set up tables and promote their programs for students that support science, engineering, and sustainability practices with a focus this year on Sustainability. If this is something you may be interested in, please visit

Dates Set for Roxbury's Kindergarten Registration for Next Year
 Roxbury Township Public Schools, a K-12 school district preparing the children of today for tomorrow, has set its Kindergarten registration dates for the 2020/2021 school year. Children must be five years old on or before October 1, 2019 to participate.

Roxbury Township Public Schools offers a full-day kindergarten program designed to develop knowledge and skills in the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive areas. Our goal is to help children develop skills and strategies that will help them learn and establish a foundation for lifelong success in education. The program allows more time for students to address curriculum in depth and allows teachers to provide additional activities in learning.
To register for Kindergarten, parents must bring their child's original birth certificate, record of immunizations, and three proofs of residency at the time of registration. To access more details, visit

Parents must make an appointment at their home school to register their child. If the home school is unknown, please contact the Transportation department at 973-584-6756 and based on your address, they can let you know what school your child should be attending.

Scholarships are offered in Morris - Deadline Mar 31
 The Morris County Retirees Education Association Philanthropic Fund, Inc. (MCREAP) is offering seven scholarships to Morris County residents who are attending and will be graduated from a public high school.
This scholarship is for students who plan to pursue a career in education and who will be attending an approved four-year accredited college or university offering a bachelor's degree with an education major.
The scholarships are for $2,000. The recipients will be sent $2,000. after the chairperson receives a copy of the first semester transcript which indicates enrollment in the field of education and a successful academic record.

Roxbury Basketball Updates:
Morris Hills over Roxbury - Girls basketball recap - Jan 16
Semaya Turner filled the box score with 18 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks for Morris Hills in its 50-36 victory over Roxbury in Rockaway.
Roxbury (1-9) held a 22-19 lead at the midway point before Morris Hills (6-3) responded with a 31-14 second half.
Mackenzie Creighton also stuffed the stat sheet in the win with 17 points, eight dimes, four boards and four steals. Tamiya Turner was the other double-digit scorer for Morris Hills with 13 points and four rebounds.

Roxbury over Morris Hills - Boys basketball recap - Jan 16
Kyle Haegele scored a team-high 20 points to lead Roxbury over Morris Hills, 56-34, in Succasunna.
Trevor Napoliello finished with 10 points while Brian Nichols chipped in nine for Roxbury (9-2), which has won five consecutive games and six of its last seven.

No. 17 West Morris over Roxbury - Boys basketball recap - Jan 22
Christian Cevis netted a game-high 27 points to lead West Morris, No. 17 in the
NJ.com Top 20, past Roxbury, 77-51, in West Morris.
Ethan Stoute added 16 points for West Morris (11-1), which used a second-half outburst to outscore Roxbury 42-17 to put the game away.
Trevor Napoliello sank four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points, while Kyle Haegele chipped in with 17 for Roxbury (9-3). Click here to read this coverage from NJ.com.

Roxbury over West Morris - Boys ice hockey recap - Jan 20
Nick Hefferle racked up three goals and an assist to pave the way for Roxbury in an 8-1 win over West Morris at Aspen Ice Arena in Randolph.
Joe Carey recorded a goal and two assists while Brian Westergaard, Kyle Jenkins and Nick Thomas each collected a goal and an assist. Steven Keane also scored while Kevin Keane had two assists.
Ryan Callahan turned aside 17 of 18 shots that came his way for Roxbury (8-6-1), who led 1-0 after the first period and scored seven goals the rest of the way.

Hat-Trick Game for Thomas as Roxbury Ice Hockey Beats Vernon - Jan 23
A first-period hat-trick performance by Nick Thomas led the Roxbury High School ice hockey team to its ninth victory Thursday as the team defeated Vernon.
The Gaels got off to a fast start en route to the 6-3 victory led by Thomas' three goals. Thomas' first was unassisted, and the next two were assisted by Nick Hefferle and Brian Westergaard.
Vernon scored early in the second period, but Roxbury responded minutes later with a goal from Hefferle and an assist from Kevin Keane.
Vernon scored again, to make it 4-2, and had a big opportunity to make it a one-goal game with a penalty shot late in the period. But goalie Ryan Callahan made the save - one of 21 he accomplished during the battle - reigniting the Gaels.
With six seconds to play in the period, Hefferle led a two-on-one rush up-ice, sliding a beautiful pass to Kyle Jenkins who fired it to the back of the net for the goal. Hefferle then won the face-off at center ice, raced in on goal and scored unassisted with less than a second remaining.
Vernon scored one in the third, but couldn't get any closer as Callahan shut the door for the rest of the night. The win brought the Gaels record this season to 9-6-1.

Gaels Going Green - Did you know...
 Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving a half of dozen different policies outlining its position and efforts.
To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Silver certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018. In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life.

Morristown and Morris Township Receive Collectively Receive $57,700 in Recycling Grant
 Morristown and Morris Township will receive $32,870 and $24,830 respectively out of the nearly $1 million the state is receiving in recycling grants.
The grants were announced by the State Department of Environmental Protections. The DEP "tonnage grants" reward municipal and county governments based on 2017 recycling numbers(the latest available statistics), according to DEP Commissioner Catherine R. McCabe. The grants, she said, are to be used to help implement and enhance local recycling efforts.
The grants will be used to improve recycling efforts through a variety of initiatives, such as providing recycling receptacles in public places, upgrading recycling drop-off centers, conducting education and outreach, implementing curbside recycling pickup programs, and funding recycling coordinator positions, said officials.

RHS Project Graduation
 Roxbury Project Graduation is NOT just for senior parents! We need all high school parents to get involved. This group and event benefit all Roxbury students. Don't wait, we need your help now.
Each year on the night of graduation, we host Project Graduation, an all-night, alcohol/drug free event for Roxbury's graduating High School Seniors.
To make this happen each year we need your HELP!
Our meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the RHS guidance conference room. The next meeting is Tuesday, October 8th. Check us out on our Facebook page, Roxbury Project Graduation or the link for our website on the RHS website.

Box Tops for Education
Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.
This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.
