Across the Abyss | April 22
Ohavi Zedek Synagogue is pleased to invite the Burlington community to join them on Sunday, April 22nd, at 2:00pm for a presentation by two esteemed scholars actively engaged in working for peace in the Middle East.
"Across the Abyss: How a Former Anti-Semite and a Former Jewish Extremist Are Changing the Muslim-Jewish Relationship"
Growing up in Turkey, Imam Abdullah Antepli saw Jews as evil and read the classic anti-Semitic work, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Growing up in Brooklyn, Yossi Klein Halevi was attracted to the militant politics of the Jewish far-right.
Today, Abdullah heads Muslim Affairs at Duke University, while Yossi is a senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute.
Together they run a revolutionary program, the Muslim Leadership Initiative, that is changing the way Muslims and Jews understand and relate to each other.

We choose to practice and teach Jewish traditions in our community, so that Jews and Judaism will continue to flourish, both in Vermont and in an ever-changing world.
