Stem Cell Therapy & AMD
In the November 2016 issue of AMD Update, we featured stem cell therapy and AMD. We warned about centers that offer treatments to reverse vision loss and regrow retinal cells. We ended with, "Beware of anything that seems too good to be true!"
How sad it was to read early this year about three women suffering from macular degeneration. They went to a Florida clinic hoping that stem cell therapy would save their eyesight. Instead, all three are now blind. Read more here.

Foresee Home Monitoring
A year ago, we
introduced the ForeseeHome Monitoring program.
By performing a simple vision test each day, individuals with AMD can track changes that may signal wet AMD.
New research shows self monitoring can be cost effective by eliminating unnecessary doctor visits and reducing the number of anti-VEGF injections.

US Open Pickleball Update
We are happy to announce that Macular Degeneration Partnership was a charitable partner of the US Open Pickleball Championships, held in Naples, FL in April.
In the event's second year, there were nearly 1,400 players from 42 states and 14 countries competing. Pickleball, a combination of tennis, racquetball, table tennis and badminton, is the fastest growing 'senior' sport with more than 2.5 million players; many of these athletes are at risk of developing AMD.

Who doesn't love Reader's Digest? This paperback-sized magazine has been around forever (Well, not really, but it has been around for 97 years.) RD has been especially responsive to the senior set, offering a Large Print edition that has the same inspirational stories, medical updates, jokes and puzzles that we remember. You can read many features from the current issue on-line at

(MORE) WEBSITES WE LOVE: Great Museums
One of the trials of living
with AMD is that some of life's pleasures begin to slip away. Traveling can be a burden to yourself and others, and so going to places that brought enjoyment becomes difficult.
For those who enjoy visual arts, or visiting museums, AMD can present a particular challenge.
Become an armchair traveler and take virtual trip to places that you love. The internet is filled with websites and videos that can give you a taste of things that bring joy.
A few years ago, a TV series called Great Museums visited museums large and small. Using your computer screen, you can take guided tours of museum collections.
The best part is there is no driving involved. You can listen to the commentary and hit the pause button when you want, enlarge the image
on your screen, and revisit some of your favorite artists or paintings at your own pace.
