This week, the Senate voted to approve legislation funding the
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) at $155 million for fiscal year 2019-a $2 million increase over the prior year. The final vote was a resounding 92-6 in favor. U.S. Senate Interior Subcommittee Chairman Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) expressed her full support for the NEA and NEH on the Senate floor ensuring "that the National Endowment[s] for the Arts and Humanities receives the level of support that I believe is important." That amount matches the level of funding allocated to the agency in the bill passed in the House of Representatives earlier this summer. Now that the bill has passed, members from both chambers will meet in conference to try to negotiate differences that exist between the two bills that are unrelated to the arts.
NEW TOOL FOR MURALISTS
Sprayprinter, a Silicon Valley start up, has invented a robot that paints large scale murals with the ease of ordinary printing. Any local artist now can now go "BIG" as in "ANY SIZE!" and the robot can paint on any flat surface: concrete, wood, brick, metal etc.

PBS SoCal AWARDED LA-AREA EMMY AWARDS
PBS SoCal has been awarded two Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. PBS SoCal received Emmy® Awards for the following: Best Arts Programming - "Take Me Home Huey," and Best Independent Programming - "Montage: Great Film Composers and the Piano." The winners were announced at the 70th Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards presentation on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Saban Media Center in North Hollywood. PBS SoCal also received the Governors Award for its work on "American Graduate: Let's Make it Happen," a five-year social impact initiative that uses local programming, community outreach and partnerships to help address the high school drop-out rate in Southern California.

CHEMERS GALLERY CELEBRATES 40 YEARS
Chemers Gallery in the Enderle Center in Tustin is celebrating its 40th anniversary. One of Orange County's longest-operated art galleries, Chemers specializes in offering the works of mid-career and emerging artists.
OCCCA ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana's artist members have elected Jeffrey Frisch as its new Executive Director. Frisch is an artist who also serves as the manager of the John Wayne Airport Arts Program of the County of Orange. He succeeds Stephen Anderson.
CHILD CREATIVITY LAB APPOINTS NEW CEO
Child Creativity Lab has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer: Dori Morehouse, who has an extensive non-profit leadership background as well as experience with children's organizations. She succeeds the founder Peter Chang.
ART INSTITUTE OF CA-OC WILL CLOSE PERMANENTLY
The Art Institute of California-Orange County in Santa Ana, a campus of the for-profit Argosy University, owned by Los Angeles-based missionary organization Dream Center Education Holdings LLC will permanently close. The school plans to lay off 161 people, effective Aug. 28. Founded in 2000, total enrollment at the school is 771 students. The closing is one of 30 campuses nationwide that will be shuttered.

TRANSITION AT MUZEO
Penelope Agosta has been appointed Acting Executive Director at
MUZEO Museum & Cultural Center in Anaheim following the departure of Josh Spears. Arts Orange County has been retained by MUZEO to provide consulting services during the organization's leadership transition.
