Dear Member:

Its hard to escape the news regarding the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. Today, the WHO (World Health Organization) has categorized Covid-19 as a Pandemic. This is significant as it is not a term used lightly.

Even before this declaration, legitimate concerns have been causing organizations around the globe to evaluate their actions which may leave them exposed to Covid-19, as well as their actions in assuring customers and clients that they are being responsible during this global crisis.

If you have not had any corporate parties, etc. cancelled as a result of this virus, know that some members have already been affected with cancellations. And if things continue to escalate in terms of cases diagnosed, and resulting deaths, you CAN expect to see cancellations and even reevaluations by league bowlers, birthday party bookings, and general open play reductions.

Bowl Canada therefore recommends your business take a position on this outbreak in attempt to comfort your customers by assuring them you are doing all you can to keep your environment clean and safe (and of course this requires that you actually DO take precautions and measures to provide the safe environment you state you are providing).

You've likely received notices from companies you deal with trying to reassure you that it's safe to continue doing business with them. The bowling industry can be no different. We see big traffic numbers daily, from all walks of life, and this is a warning sign to those who are watching out for their safety and the safety of their staff, family, etc. It is only prudent that we consider consequences of action vs. inaction, and what inaction can mean to day to day business now, and the effect it can have on your business and it's reputation in the future.

CLICK HERE to download a file with some template notices you can use, or customize, as you wish, to help with the following;
  • Assure your customers you are proactive and enhancing your cleaning and sanitization efforts on their behalf
  • Officially notify staff, in a demonstrable way, of your efforts and mechanics
  • Post hand-washing notices in your bathrooms to re-enforce the importance of everyone doing their part to keep clean and limit the possible spread of the virus
  • See samples from other organizations who are letting their customers know about their efforts to contain spreading

We hope these items are helpful. Change them as appropriate for your business. The footers in the word files contain the Bowl Canada logo. You can easily replace the logo with your own by clicking on the logo on page 1. This will open up the footer section, allowing you to delete that logo and place your own. To close the footer, simply click outside the footer section to return to the main editing section. Or you can simpy leave the Bowl Canada logo there to show that your centre is part of a nationally concerned industry that is trying to do its part.

Thanks to Bob McKay at Woodlawn Bowl, Guelph, and Martin VanKeimpema at Bonnie Doon Bowl, Edmonton for sharing their postings!

Good luck with your efforts!
