This month we join colleagues at the National Archives, the Smithsonian, and the National Park Service in celebrating strong, accomplished women. One such pioneer was Mary Rutherfurd Jay (1872–1953), one of America's earliest landscape architects. Long before the existence of STEAM, she was a vocal advocate for women pursuing commissions in this highly technical and demanding field.
Today the gardens that inspired her are being re-imagined by
