PTSA NEWS
WHAT ARE YOU
WAITING FOR?
OUR DEADLINE IS THIS FRIDAY AND WE ONLY NEED 74 MORE MEMBERS!

We only need 74 more members by our Friday deadline to reach our 100% membership goal.
WHY?

  1. We are the rated the No. 1 High School in the state. Why? We have motivated students and staff and a great curriculum.
  2. We can be the only high school in the state with 100% PTSA membership. Why? To show that we support each and every student for their success at this school.
  3. We have adults and students as members. Why? Any adult and any student can become a PTSA member—you can easily add a member to a dual membership or add a student.
  4. Being a PTSA member gives us leverage at the state and local level for issues that concern us. Why? Numbers count—130,000 members talking to the legislature gets our concerns noticed.

Please   help us reach the goal of 586 members and create community by supporting each and every student at IS. You can do this by clicking online here .
AMPLIFY YOUR VOICE

Be a part of a powerful association that  advocate s on behalf of children and educators at the local, state, and national levels.
  • The Washington State PTA (WSPTA) is the largest volunteer child advocacy association in Washington state. It includes over 130,000 members.
  • The organization is a vibrant, active association of people from all walks of life and backgrounds, working together for children and schools.
  • Members testify frequently during the legislative session. Watch a mom testify last week to support the gun destruction bill under consideration. With the lobbyist for the NRA sitting next to her, Seattle parent Kate Levin did a fabulous job of sharing why the Washington State PTA supports HB 1010, a bill that would allow the Washington State Patrol to destroy confiscated guns rather than requiring the patrol to store and then sell the guns.
IT'S EASY TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR OUR KIDS—AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT!

Dear Parents,
We are in a critical period to get legislation passed for our children.  The legislative session ends March 12!  Please take action by phone or email at least once during advocacy week!  If you have concerns about vaping, gun violence prevention, mental health, climate change, paraeducator training,  or any other topic relating to the health and well-being of youth , please be heard.  You don't have to know specific bill numbers. You don't have to be an expert. Legislators want to receive heartfelt input.

Be polite,  personal , and brief. Put the topic in the subject line.

Thank you!
Krista Hammer

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO MAKE FOCUS WEEK DONATIONS— DRIVE ENDS THIS FRIDAY!

Students are not  required to pay to attend Focus Week, but we depend on parent support for the success of our activity offerings! We are working hard to reduce the cost of Focus Week by using parent drivers, public transportation, and reduced food expenditures. Focus Week expenses will be an estimated $200 per participant. Please consider donating to cover the cost of providing these enrichment opportunities. Any and all amounts are appreciated in order to make focus week successful!

Our donation drive for Focus week will run until THIS FRIDAY, February 28, and families can donate at  TouchBase Lite  or in person in the main office.

The exception to Fee-Free Focus Weeks is for overnight trips. Students selecting to take part in Focus Week activities that have overnight excursions will be charged for these activities. This year, overnight trips include Sixth Grade Camp (and its 11th and 12th grade counselors), the French Exchange, the Taiwan Trip, and the Mount Rainier Trip. If students take overnight trips, they will be charged a fee for the week. Scholarships are available.
