Parent Service Fellowship
Dr. Tessie Guidry Lower School Principal

"Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness." - Romans 12: 6-8

When I first joined the family that is Christ Covenant School more than seven years ago, one of the things that struck me most was how engaged and involved the parents were in the school. Whether it was through class parties and trips, Chicken Dinner, Spartan Café, helping out at sporting events, CCS parents were joyfully involved and active. This was so refreshing to me and I was personally able to find where my gifts and talents could be used best for the betterment of the school and for the glory of God.

As Romans 12 tells us, we have all been blessed with a variety of gifts and God charges us with using those gifts for His glory. The beauty of CCS is that there are countless opportunities to engage and use those gifts in a loving, Christ-centered environment. Moreover, we are afforded the opportunity to fellowship with like-minded families and work together to create a community that holistically educates children to transform the world for Jesus Christ.

If you are uncertain about how to get involved at CCS, let me share a wonderful opportunity called PSF (Parent Student Fellowship). PSF is a group that exists to provide an organized means through which all parents can participate in activities that enhance the spiritual and physical learning environment of our children, fellowship with one another and support the faculty and staff.

At CCS, we are blessed with the fact that our parents don't simply drop their kids off at the schoolhouse door, but rather engage and fully buy into the school environment. Our school depends on PSF to support our teachers, administrators and to help us create the best caring, supportive, and Christ-centered environment for all of our children. We encourage you to look at the link below and to find where your talents might be used to glorify God and support the school. Each of the PSF committee chairpersons need your help!  Please contact them directly via e-mail to get involved. God will use you this year to make a difference and bless our school - thank you for all that you do!

Blessings,

Tessie Guidry

Picture Day
School Picture Day is Tuesday, August 29.  The picture process will be a little different this year.
  • Strawbridge Studios:  Based on the results of last year's parent survey last year, we decided to return to Strawbridge.
  • No more pre-pay!  This year, we'll take pictures of all students and send home a packet of pictures.  Parents may opt to pay for and keep the pictures they like and return those that they don't want to keep.  There is an online pay option for those who would prefer to pay online.
    • If your child is sick on picture day or if you're not happy with the pictures, you can have them re-taken on picture make-up day, November 8.
  • What if your child has PE on Tuesday?  Make sure your child wears their normal dress on picture day and we'll make sure the PE activities for that day are suitable for regular clothes.
Hot Lunch Ordering is Open!
Hot Lunch ordering is now open!  The first hot lunch will be Friday, September 1.

This year, we've made a couple of changes:
1) We've added 2 new restaurants; Moes and Dominos!  Please refer to this document for a complete list of menu items with descriptions and prices.

Upper and Lower Schools will be on different schedules so check our website calendar or RenWeb calendar each week for the hot lunch selections at each school.

If you are new to the school and need help with ordering instructions, click here.

IMPORTANT!
  • If you order one week at a time, please remember hot lunch ordering closes at noon on each Tuesday.  So, please get your orders placed before Tuesday at noon.  If you are able to place an order, don't worry, we received the order.  When ordering closes, it is not possible to place an order.
  • If you prefer placing one order for the entire year, please remember we cannot refund money for unused hot lunches.

We need drivers!
  • We cannot run the program without our wonderful volunteer parents who retrieve lunchs, deliver them to our school and help serve.  If you volunteer to pick up lunch (aka drive), your child will eat FREE on that day!  Click the link below for details and to sign up.

Dominos and Moes will be delivering to us so we
won't need volunteers for those lunches!

Kiss & Go (LS)
Please remember Monday marks the beginning of the Kiss and Go period for parents of our younger JK-1st grade students who have been walking their children in to the building and classrooms each morning.

Parents are always welcome to walk their children in to the building, we just ask that they refrain from walking their children down to the classrooms beginning Monday.  Don't worry, we'll have plenty of staff present to make sure your child feels secure and arrives safely to his/her classrooms.
Eclipse - Mr. Carawan
Photograph taken by Mr. Carawan
Mr. Carawan, Christ Covenant Upper School chemistry and physics teacher traveled to Greenville South Carolina to  experience the eclipse in its path of totality.  As an avid photographer, Mr. Carawan was able to capture this picture when the eclipse was at its 100% point.  What a miraculous spectacle he was able to witness and it is just a part of God's perfect plan. The following provides Mr. Carawan's first hand account of the event.

Some say that the universe lacks order but God is overwhelmingly in control of all.

On August 21st of this year I was in awe standing in the front yard of my daughter and son in law's home in Greenville, SC where my wife and I viewed the total solar eclipse in crystal clear skies. The eclipse started around 1:10 PM but totality did not come until 2:38 PM. As the eclipse was about midway, the neighborhood friends with their children came over and had a few questions about safety. I told them what to do and what to look for during the approach of totality. Shortly before totality everyone witnessed the "shadow bands" running across the grass and down the driveway. Several noticed the crescent shape light through the leaves of bushes and trees as they reflected off of the grass or sidewalk. The area was still lit up but with a dim greenish light. and then suddenly there was darkness. The temperature dropped approximately 8 degrees which was a blessing being that it was about 92 degrees before the eclipse. The sky was dark enough to view Venus and several stars. Along the horizon looked to be slightly lit up with a dim orangish light. The street lights came on and the crickets began chirping loudly throughout the entire event. My grandsons' dog left the front yard and went into the garage where she normally will sleep at night being fooled by mother nature.

The darkness (totality) lasted for 2 minutes and 24 seconds giving plenty of photographic timing and then the "Diamond Ring Effect" spelled the end of totality with a very bright burst of energy. The photograph shows the Corona of the sun and the gravitational field lines associated streaming ionized material (plasma) from the surface of the sun. The entire event leaves one very humbled and yet the event is something I will never forget.

"Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars."  Psalm 148:3
"Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded..and they were created"   Psalm 148:5
