"Knives Out"
sponsored by Verona Wine & Design
February 7-9, 2020
comedy/crime/drama
131 minutes
PG-13

"“Knives Out” is one of the most purely entertaining films in years. It is the work of a cinematic magician, one who keeps you so focused on what the left hand is doing that you miss the right. And, in this case, it’s not just a wildly fun mystery to unravel but a scathing bit of social commentary about where America is in 2019. Great mystery writers throughout history have dissected class in ways that were palatable to audiences looking for escapism, and Johnson is clearly doing that here too, using a wonderfully entertaining mystery structure that would make Agatha Christie smile. Directing a wildly charismatic cast who are all-in on what he’s doing, Johnson confidently stays a step or two ahead of his audience, leaving them breathless but satisfied at the end.."

IRS News
Most taxpayers can do both their federal and state tax returns for free online through Free File offered either by the IRS or by states that have a similar public-private partnership.

For 2020, taxpayers whose prior-year adjusted gross income was $69,000 or less, and that's most people, can use IRS Free File. Generally, taxpayers must complete their federal tax return before they can begin their state taxes.

More than 20 states also have a state Free File program patterned after federal partnership which means many taxpayers are eligible for free federal and free state online tax preparation. Those states are: Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia, plus the District of Columbia.

In addition, IRS Free File partners – featuring 10 brand-name online products - offer most or some state tax returns for free as well. Some may also charge so it is important for taxpayers to explore their free options.

BRHC News
Message from the CEO Carol Carew
Happy New Year! We have some exciting
things coming up this year.

February is American Heart Month. We have good information on the back about how to keep your heart healthy. It’s also Children’s Dental Health Month. Starting children with dental care early is the best way for them to continue that habit into adulthood. This is an important component to being a healthy adult because some studies suggest that there is a connection between poor oral health and heart disease. Our dental program is happy to treat children so give us a call.

And speaking of being healthy, if you have not had your flu shot yet, there is still time for it to be effective. We are deep into flu season and numerous deaths have been reported across the country. Getting the flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those around you. The flu is now considered widespread across Maine with all 16 counties reporting cases.

Groundhog day is upon us so here’s hoping for an early spring. February 2020 Newsletter
Castine Historical Society Announces House and Garden Tour 2020

The tour will include 9 homes, 5 gardens, and Castine’s Dyce’s Head Lighthouse and John Perkins House.

February Vacation Camp at the Wilson Museum
Play around the World
Everyone likes fun and games during vacation. This year, give your fun and games an international twist with the February Vacation Day Camp "Play Around the World" at the Wilson Museum. Try your hands, hips, and feet at games and activities enjoyed in Ethiopia, Bolivia, and Germany, just to name a few, during the Wilson Museum’s 2020 February Vacation Day Camp. Camp will run Tuesday, February 18, through Friday, February 21 (8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.) for grades 1-8 at the Hutchins Education Center (112 Perkins Street, Castine).

Inspired by the Museum’s collections, campers will be exposed to how people have entertained themselves across continents as they play games from North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Games and activities will take place both inside and outside so children should bring clothing appropriate for the weather. Students are asked to bring their own snacks and lunch. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate.

Cost per child is $15 for all four days or $5 per day for individual days. Space is limited, advanced payment is required. Be assured of a spot by calling 207-326-9247 or emailing [email protected] to register, or for more information.
