ONE PARALLEL

As we enter a new decade, Parallel Technologies took a moment to reaffirmed our commitment to our core values and our culture. Not unlike the janitor at NASA whose job was to "put a man on the moon," each of Parallel team member's role isn't to fulfill a job description but rather to collectively works towards helping our clients realize their goals.

Together, we are One Parallel. And this philosophy permeates every aspect of our business - from project management to engineering and operations. Achieving our mission depends on a unified vision and philosophy. Across the organization, we are aligning around an overall Intelligent Building strategy that strengthens how we sell, deliver and service our clients.

To support the One Parallel philosophy, Parallel introduced a three-year business plan built around a NASA theme which kicked off with rocket building and the introduction of "Major Tom" in Minnesota and "Altus" in Nebraska. These brawny astronauts serve as a reminder of our mission.
STRATEGIES FOR PROTECTING YOUR BAS FROM A CYBERATTACK

In the January issue of Building Operating Management, Parallel's Matt Schwartz and Bashar Shehadeh shared advice on ways to protect your building automation system from cyber threats.

According to the authors, "any system connected to the internet is at risk and far too often unprotected and forgotten about BAS systems leave companies vulnerable. In fact, an intrusion into a BAS can lead to compromised building security and unplanned downtime of critical systems that can have rippling effects across a company's (or a tenant's) business processes."

BUILDING CONNECTIVITY: WI-FI VERSUS CELLULAR

Today's businesses run on connectivity. From commercial buildings to retail complexes, healthcare facilities and college campuses, occupants/visitors demand and expect the very best in Wi-Fi and cellular access.

Yet ensuring connectivity is not without its challenges. Building structures and the materials used often create dead zones, the number of users on a network can fluctuate and the mix of wireless carriers varies dramatically as well. While Wi-Fi and cellular are both a part of in-building wireless connectivity, their strengths and weaknesses make them different in their application, effectiveness and use.

In a recent blog post, Parallel's DAS expert Phil Leaf explores some of the key concepts in the Wi-Fi versus Cellular connectivity discussion. Read more here>>
