A MESSAGE FROM KBA'S 2020 CHAIRMAN
Dear Friends:

As we bring 2019 to a close and usher in a new decade, thank you for the important service you provide the commonwealth. Each of you play an important role in your community. Our collective membership of local, regional, and statewide radio and tv broadcasters are essential, providing a valuable service of informing, protecting and entertaining our fellow Kentuckians.

I look forward to working with you in the coming year, as we signal our distinct and significant service, to business leaders and elected officials across our great state.  I hope to hear from you on ways that we can strengthen the KBA to better serve you and your enterprise.

With warmest regards and best wishes for a prosperous new year,

Julie H. Schmidt
Chairman
Kentucky Broadcasters Association
CHARLIE PERRY RETIRES AFTER 40 YEARS
After 40 years on-the-air, morning show host Charlie Perry (aka "Mr. Danville"), turned off the microphone for the final time earlier this week.

Each and every morning Charlie entertained and informed his listeners with the latest local happenings and events. However, it is his passion for community service that ultimately defines his career as a broadcaster. Charlie donated and unaccountable amount of time to charitable events such as; Jaycees, March of Dimes, Salvation Army and United Way, just to name a few.

Charlie was the voice of the Boyle County Fair for decades, calling the Tractor Pull and Demolition Derby every year.

He was the voice of the Danville Admirals Football for 15 years, celebrating with listeners during the good times and consoling the tough losses. Not only was Charlie a staunch Admirals fan – he also lent his talents to the Boyle County Rebels and Garrard County Golden Loins calling numerous games and championships.

Routinely Charlie has hosted candidate forums and debates and was always the “voice of the voters” on election night as he was live from the courthouse as election results were announced.

In 2002 Charlie was named one of Kentucky’s “best radio personality” by Kentucky Monthly and he has frequently won “Best in the Business” awards locally.

"He was a calm voice during difficult times. There was a time (not to long ago) when the only way to know weather announcements was by the radio! Who can forget the 2009 Ice Storm that crippled our community, leaving many stranded with no electricity for critical medical needs such as oxygen or feeding systems that are life and death!  Charlie rarely left the air during that crisis, taking calls and putting people in critical needs with emergency officials.  Coining the phrase “Power to the People”, Charlie cried with callers and laughed with others – never losing sight of the crisis our community endured", said Robert Wagner, General Manager of Hometown Radio.

The Kentucky Broadcasters Association extends best wishes for a relaxing and golf filled retirement, to our friend, Charlie Perry.

"WE ARE BROADCASTERS" ON-AIR CAMPAIGN
Kentuckians turn to their local television and radio stations to provide them with the critical news, emergency updates, weather reports, sports and entertainment they value. Yet, policymakers who have the ability to shape broadcasting’s future do not always understand local stations' vital role in communities.

Kentucky's General Assembly will be convening next week and we are asking stations to please air the "We Are Broadcasters" campaign through April 15th. The on-air campaign is part of a broad initiative to showcase the importance of local broadcasters across the State.

Both television and radio spots can be accessed by clicking HERE.
