TEDCO Portfolio Company Spotlight:

Gaithersburg, Maryland-based, Adaptive Phage Therapeutics (APT) is developing phage-based therapies designed to target specific bacteria strains, as contrasted with antibiotics, which target multiple types of bacteria.

APT announced that the DoD had awarded it $10.2 million to fund a clinical trial to develop its personalized bacteriophage therapeutic, PhageBank.

Theraly Fibrosis, a preclinical-stage biotechnology company focused on development and commercialization of drugs for various fibrotic diseases today announced the company has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the amount of $3.9 million to support development of TLY012 for treatment of chronic pancreatitis.

Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) developed a new nanoparticle drug formulation that targets a specific receptor on cancer cells and appears to be more effective than a standard nanoparticle therapy currently on the market to treat metastatic breast cancer, according to a study published today in the journal Science Advances. The new ‘DART’ nanoparticles bypass healthy cells and tissues and bind to tumor cells, dispersing evenly throughout the tumor while releasing the chemotherapy drug paclitaxel.

Retired Major General Linda Singh was just appointed as interim Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer (ED/CEO) for TEDCO as of January 2020. Singh joins TEDCO at a critical time for Maryland’s investment engine for start-up technology and life science companies. A rocky 2019 brought sweeping leadership exits and a moratorium on investing for TEDCO. Singh takes charge just as TEDCO is allowed to begin accepting applications for investments again in its Rural Business Innovation Initiative (RBII Fund), Builder Fund (Builder Fund), Seed Funds (Seed Fund) and Maryland Venture Fund (MVF).

TEDCO's Linda Singh adds another post-retirement job as Towson U leader-in-residence

Retired Maj. Gen. Linda L. Singh, former adjutant general of the Maryland National Guard, has joined Towson University as its first leader-in-residence, the university announced Monday.

The position is a second role announced for Singh this month. She earlier joined the Maryland Technology Development Corporation as its interim CEO.
