VIDEOS: Cordova High students deliver inspiring TED-style speeches
|
Those viral
TED Talk videos
you see in your social media feeds? Cordova High students in the school's International Baccalaureate Programme recently created and delivered their own inspirational speeches before an audience of students, teachers, and community members.
Earlier this year, Cordova High School's Performing Arts Theatre hosted a regional "Learn2Learn" event, in which participants - students and educators - were tasked with creating TED-style talks about what it means to be a lifelong learner.
Career Technical Education students also built the custom set used for the stage's backdrop, and media students recorded video of every speech!

During Black History Month, we'll highlight examples of teachers and school communities working to expand understanding of African American experiences, voices, and contributions - histories that deserve celebration far beyond four weeks in February.

White Rock Elementary students take to the stage, thanks to generous grant funding
|
Last week, students at White Rock Elementary performed
Jungle Book Kids
, a production made possible through a partnership with Sacramento Children's Theatre and funded with Rancho Cordova Community Enhancement Funds.
This partnership is a yearly event, one both teachers and students enjoy. "It's fun to see the students get so excited about performing" remarked third-grade teacher Sharon Griffin. "I saw my student really shine on stage; it was so nice to see her be able to perform for an audience!"
What makes this theater program unique is that not only does it give students a chance to have fun on stage, it also focuses on building self-confidence, learning about the arts, performing for others, and learning to work as a team.
A huge shout out of thanks to the city of Rancho Cordova who made this opportunity possible with a Community Enhancement Fund grant; a shining example of how the community supports education and our students.
