LAAC's Day in Sacramento will build on the success of previous events in ensuring lawmakers in Sacramento hear the legal aid community's collective voice. LAAC is mobilizing volunteers from legal aid organizations across California to meet with legislators and explain how legal aid is part of a safety net of services.

LAAC staff will prepare absolutely everything you need for an easy and effective day of communicating the value of legal aid.  No previous experience necessary.

Recruitment and Retention Report

LAAC's Recruitment and Retention Study Report is complete and  available here

Justice at Risk  provides an extensive look at legal aid's recruitment and retention issues. The report is the result of surveys of current attorneys, former attorneys, and Executive Directors, as well as focus group interviews with law students. It offers an in-depth analysis of the problem and recommendations for possible solutions.
State Bar of California Releases Justice Gap Report

The State Bar of California has released its findings on the "justice gap" in California. The report includes: an  Executive Summary that covers key findings, the  Full Report, a  Technical Report, and a  sub-report on Public Interest Drift in law schools. For those working in this sector, the numbers aren't surprising, but provide an objective look at the lack of access to justice in California. A few standout statistics:
  • 60 percent of low-income Californians experience at least one civil legal problem each year.
  • 85 percent of low-income Californians receive no or inadequate legal help.
  • Just 30 percent of low-income Californians who sought help from legal aid had their issue fully resolved (of those who could not be served, reasons included insufficient organizational resources, problem type not aligning with the organization's or priorities, or eligibility issues).
  • 41 percent of those fully served by legal aid received a limited level of service, such as brief advice or document preparation.
