An Active Fall Season of Ministry

I believe we are going to experience a meaningful fall season of ministry. I am asking God to move in our midst in powerful ways as we engage in the work of the Kingdom. I hope that YOU will make every effort to be involved in all that is going on at Field Street Baptist Church in the next few months. Please read below to identify only a few.

PBJ Groups Begin Sunday
As you are aware, we are launching our PBJ (Prayer, Bible Study, Joy of being in fellowship together) groups initiative on Sunday night, September 10, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. Ideally, these groups will meet geographically. The meeting dates will be: September 10, 24, October 8, 22, and November 12, for a total of five meetings in the fall. The purpose of PBJ fellowship groups is to foster a home-based environment for shepherding, discipleship, relationship building, and prayer which will enhance the body life, spiritual growth and maturity of FSBC. Groups of people of all ages (childcare provided for children, nursery-6th grade) will gather in homes. I am confident that this initiative will be used of God to strengthen the fellowship and faith of our congregation. A listing of PBJ home locations is available at the welcome desk on Sunday mornings.

Men-Time to Get in a R.U.T.-September 12
I want to invite our men to participate in a Tuesday morning Bible study beginn ing September 12, at 6:30 a.m. We will gather for coffee, donuts, fellowship, prayer, and Bible study. On the kickoff Tuesday, however, one of our men has offered to make provision for a fantastic full breakfast! R.U.T. stands for reliable, unswerving, and trustworthy, from 2 Timothy 2:2  which reads: "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."  I have come to a conviction as the men go in the church, so goes the church. We need men who are reliable, unswerving, and trustworthy. Each Tuesday morning we will open the Word of God and mine its riches. You are encouraged to bring a friend.

Marriage Enrichment Emphasis w/Dr. Charles Lowery
On Sunday, September 17, Dr. Charles Lowery will be here at FSBC to lead us in a time of marriage enrichment. All marriages are occasionally due for a "tune-up." An excellent investment of time is to give some attention to strengthening your marriage. Dr. Lowery will preach in both morning services and lead a seminar that evening from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Cost is $12 per person or $20 per couple, which includes a meal. Childcare is available by request. Make plans to take advantage of this opportunity. To register, go to fieldstreet.com/marriage.

Debt Reduction on the Children's Building
At the time of this writing, we owe $169,226 on the children's building. We are aiming to eliminate the remaining debt on the children's building by the end of October. Thank you for your continued generosity and sacrifice to make this a reality.

1 Thessalonians Sermon Series
This Sunday I will begin a series of messages from 1 Thessalonians. This series will be timely and a tremendous encouragement to us as we watch the world groan for redemption. Please pray that God will use this series to bring glory to His name, exalt Christ, and encourage His people in these days.

One Final Word
Would you commit to being in your place each Sunday as you are able? We need you here, want you here, and you need to be here! The next few months are going to be exciting as we strive to open ourselves further to the Lord and to each other.

 See you Sunday!

Music Ministry

Living Christmas Tree
"The Christmas season is the richest opportunity the music ministry has all year long to reach into the community with the power of the Gospel in music."--Mike Harland, Director of Lifeway Worship

What an opportunity we have as a church to reach out into the community and share the Gospel through music. At Christmastime the church has the best opportunity all year long to get people into the music ministrybuilding, and we want to take advantage of every opportunity we can to share the true meaning of Christmas with Cleburne and Johnson County.

Preparations for the 2017 Living Christmas Tree Ministry are well underway. We had a great turnout at our kickoff and have added several new faces! This is a ministry that is open to any adult that has an interest in sharing the news of Christ's birth through music. You do not have to audition or know a thing about music, just come and we'll help you get the music learned. It is going to be an incredible year. Our tree rehearsals are Wednesday nights from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the choir room. I encourage you to come and check it out.

Adult Worship Choir
Even though we are working on Christmas music, we aren't stopping our preparations for Sunday morning worship in the Adult Choir. We rehearse our Sunday morning music on Wednesdays from 7:00-7:30 p.m. and then transition into LCT music at 7:30. I hope you'll consider helping lead worship with us on Sunday mornings!

Children's Choirs
Children's Choirs at Field Street Baptist Church are designed to nurture children's understanding of and relationship with God, and encourage and equip them to worship Him. On Wednesday, September 6, we will be kicking off our fall semester in our children's choirs. This is a great place to get your kids plugged into Field Street. Choirs meet Wednesdays from 6:00-6:40 p.m. in the children's building.

Wee Singers--4-Kindergarten, Room C107
Music Makers--1st-3rd grade, Room C202

Irving Elementary
School has begun! Again this year, we have the opportunity to work at Irving Elementary School. In the past, we have served as mentors, tutors and Reading Buddies. We are able to minister to the teachers simply by being a help to them, and to the children by being another significant adult in their lives.

Children's Ministry

It's hard to believe that six years of ministry at FSBC have come and gone. Thank you, church family, for allowing me and my family the opportunity to serve alongside of you. We look forward to many more years of service!

Our second annual 1st Grade Breakfast was held on Promotion Sunday this year. Eight of our first graders and their families participated. Each child was presented with a new Bible. This was a meaningful time for these families as we celebrated this special milestone.

Please join us on Wednesday, September 6th, on the 2nd floor lobby of the Children's Building for our "Love and Respect" marriage enrichment class (New Parent Bible Study). This class will meet weekly this fall from 6:45-7:45 p.m.

Our BIG (Believers in God) Puppet Ministry will rehearse each Sunday night from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Children's Theater, beginning September 10th. If you have a child in 1st grade or above who would like to participate, please contact Chris Rizo or Jennifer Howington.

All preteens are invited to join us for our annual Fall Preteen Retreat on September 22-23 at Rick and Anne Deem's home. The purpose of this retreat is to build a team of 5th & 6th graders who will bond and grow together as a group as they ultimately grow closer to our Lord and Savior. We will depart from the church at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22. There is no cost to attend.

Please join us next month for our Family Mission Trip to Mission Waco on October 6-8. Children in 1st grade and above children's ministry are invited to attend. One parent must accompany each child. Total cost to attend is $75/adult and $50/child. We will depart on Friday, October 6th, at 6:00 p.m. If you have an interest in participating, please contact Jennifer Howington to secure your reservation.

School is back and our fall programming is in full-swing!

Wednesday, August 23rd, we hosted our 1st annual Back-to-School Bash at the Depot. God blessed our night greatly and we saw 8 students make decisions for Christ! In addition to those who made decisions, we met several new students who are looking for a church in the area. We hope to follow up with each of them and get them involved here in our student ministry. Thank you to those who helped out that night. You are appreciated!

Beginning Sunday, September 10, our Covenant Groups will launch for the new year. These groups will meet every Sunday night from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and are arranged appropriately by gender and age. We are so excited for these groups to begin and believe they will play a tremendous role in seeing our students grow spiritually.

If you would like to serve FSBC students in any capacity, from serving on Wednesday nights to being a personal mentor, you are always welcome and appreciated.

Senior Adult Ministry

"MOVIN', MOVIN', MOVIN'". . . the theme song for "Rawhide" seemed to be on my tongue much of the summer. Part of the move was the relocation of my "shop." During the reassignment of space in a new location, I ran across a scroll-saw project. It bore the image of a circle and the inscription read: "Round-to-it." It served as a reminder that there is something waiting for me to "get-a-round-to it." Perhaps you have been "waiting to get around to things" and the fall offers some wonderful opportunities to do just that! As a Senior Adult, here's some things you might consider:

"Joyful Sound"-- this is our Senior Adult Choir. We meet for rehearsal every Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the choir room. Many of our members sing in the Adult Worship Choir as well as Joyful Sound and we would welcome anyone who is interested in using their voice to serve the Lord.

"Young At Heart" --this is an organization for "all" senior adults in our church family. Our regular meeting time is the second Tuesday of the month. Our meeting place is the Family Life Center (gym). We begin with a fellowship time at 10:45 a.m. followed by a program at 11:00 a.m. and a wonderful lunch at 11:45 a.m. Since we are separated by space on Sundays, "Young at Heart" provides an opportunity for a combined gathering of senior adults. If you've never been, we would love for you to consider this opportunity.

senior adults

MABS. . . "Monday Afternoon Bible Study" this involves several Bible Study Sessions during the year. Of course, it meets on Monday afternoons from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in room 114. Our next session begins on September 11. This session will involve a study of Doctrine and is entitled: "Doctrine Determines Direction." What we believe will determine, in a large part, the way we live. We will cover four major doctrines:

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit

The Doctrine of Angels

The Doctrine of Satan

The Doctrine of Last Things-Part 1

The Doctrine of Last Things-Part 2

As you think about this fall; the beginning of our new church year; may it be a reminder that now could be your time to get "moving" and perhaps your time to "get-a-round-to it."
