Principal's Message
September 6, 2017
Dear OLQP Families:
I hope and pray that this message finds your family well and safe. As of today, the school does not have water in the buildings. However, ingress/egress are not safe as there is still deep, moving water in the area. While the water subsides, and the City of Richwood continues to recover, we have accepted the generous offer from St. Michael's, 100 Oak Drive South, Lake Jackson, to use their facility to re-open school. This temporary arrangement will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis.
It is important for the children to return to their school routine. Familiar faces, learning, community prayer, playtime, and all of those things that make our school what it is are transportable! St. Michael's Spiritual Learning Center is more than adequate to meet the needs of the school. There are enough classrooms for all, an area for the nurse, and a reception area. The door into the building is secure. The Family Life Center will serve as a gymnasium and cafeteria. Mrs. Ammons will provide a sack lunch option during the first week back. Please review the attachment concerning drop off and pick up.
Teachers are working to bring the necessary resources to St. Michael's from Our Lady Queen of Peace. The staff will have a facility orientation on Friday to ensure a smooth transition. Our intent is to bring the OLQP program to St. Michael's providing the same service and ministry to our families albeit in a different location.
Safety is of utmost importance. As we prepare to re-open school, know that our prayers are with those who are not yet able to rejoin us. Homeroom teachers will be reaching out to any families who are not able to attend yet in order to work with those families to accommodate instructional needs however possible. Please complete the Google Document survey if you are in need of lodging or if you can offer support to members of the OLQP school family who are in need. We will work to match needs to support available.
I was reflecting on the fact that at this time last year, we were preparing to celebrate OLQP's 30th Anniversary. We were recalling how so many in this great community of Catholic parishes helped Sr. Antoinette establish the school.  It seems providential that in this time of need, the community of St. Michael's has offered to house the school just as when OLQP was first beginning and in need of a building. Special thanks go to Father Leo Wleczyk for his generosity and support. Thanks, too, to Deacon Gary Forse for his guidance and care. OLQP families greatly appreciate the charity extended from the entire St. Michael's Parish family.

Thank you and God bless,

Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
