Metropolitan Mayors Caucus
The
Greenest Region Compact (GRC) promotes sustainability in Chicago communities across the region with an emphasis on building strong and vibrant communities. The foundation of the GRC are 49 high-level goals that have been reached by consensus; not only are the goals aligned with important local, regional, national and global goals, but they also have support from 126 communities and 3 counties that have adopted the GRC. These consensus goals guide municipal action, support mayors in their role as environmental leaders, and foster collaboration that will have positive impacts on the region. Municipalities adopt the GRC by formal resolution and agree to work to achieve the GRC goals in their community and in collaboration with other municipalities across the region. To date, 129 municipalities and all the area Council of Governments have joined the GRC2. Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns is the Chairperson so please contact him with questions regarding the GRC2.

The General Assembly returned to session January 28, 2020 with new Senate President Don Harmon. There were changes in leadership and one of our partners, Senator Linda Holmes was named to leadership. The Governor gave his State of the State speech and outlined some successes from last session. You can read his full speech here:

We hosted Congressman Sean Casten in the office on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 and had a productive conversation concerning infrastructure funding, lead line replacement funding, cannabis banking and other issues. Thanks to all who attended. Representative Lauren Underwood has rescheduled again so we are tentatively scheduled to meet on April 14th.
Our Legislative Committee has been busy meeting to review our legislative agenda and bills for this session. We are receiving weekly reports from our lobbyist, Raucci & Sullivan to keep us apprised of bills concerning local government.
