Lifelong Faith Formation Connections

From the heart of our Pastoral Associate...Dr. Kathie Amidei
New Beginnings
I love the beginning of the school year. What is better than new #2 pencils and several empty notebooks? Maybe you share my love of school supplies or you are a parent who is happy to have a more regular schedule or the crispness in the fall air renews you. For many reasons, this is a time of beginnings and possibilities!
This, also, is the time of year our church offers new adventures in faith to widen the horizons of our relationship with God. I am especially excited about this year for several reasons. These are a few:

Alpha Alpha is an invitation to look at how God interacts with us in life. It is a spiritual yet practical experience that begins by asking the question, "Is there more to life than this?" The pilot program we did last spring convinced us that Alpha changes lives and hearts. I hope you consider how it might be a gift in your life! Our high schoolers will be participating in Teen Alpha, too!

Mary Our bible study, this year is about Mary. If you have ever wondered about the powerful drama of Mary's earthly life and how she works in our life today you may want to consider participating in our Wednesday night or Friday morning sessions.
Family Program If you are in Family Program or you would like to join us occasionally know you are always welcome! Our theme is Best Seller! We will explore how the Bible is a love letter meant personally for YOU and a guide to life for all of us!

Night of the Rosary This is an evening, October 5th, for ALL ages, children, teens, and adults, to be inspired by the rosary. This will be made even more wonderful because our friend, Mike Patin, from Louisiana will emcee this special evening!
Honestly, these are only a few wonderful things that are making this a special year. Know I am praying for you, that the Holy Spirit guides you to what speaks to your heart and opens it to God's boundless love for you!

Here's a song that may help you listen: Word of God Speak, by Mercy Me

Welcome to our new program year and welcome to all of our new families! This is our Lifelong Faith Formation Connections Newsletter!   You are receiving this newsletter because we have you listed as having a child age 5 or younger, or are enrolled in our Confirmation or Family Program. We are also sending this to catechists and group leaders. We hope you find this helpful, informing and nourishing. Here you can expect to find connections: ideas to help your family connect to God; ways to connect to our faith community; connections between faith and family life. You may not find all the information directly relevant for your family at this moment; feel free to scroll down to the sections that are.

Below are calendar items, information on and celebration of things going on in our community.  There are also sections for a ministry highlight, grade levels, family programs, and a family inspiration.

This method of communication is meant to reduce the number of emails a family receives, while showing a bigger picture of our parish. Above are some quick links which will lead you to our website with additional information and items of interest.

Bike Ride and Pizza Party  for all youth in Grades 6, 7 & 8 on September 17 from 4:30 to 6:30pm.  This annual event is a great way to kick off our year of Middle School Youth Ministry. We bike along the bike path just far enough for it to be fun, and enjoy get-to-know you games and pizza.  Parents are always welcome to ride along, or to be there where we cross the streets.  Please RSVP online  .  Plan to bring a helmet and a $10 donation for the food.  Friends who are not members of the parish are welcome too!

Parent input needed for the Family Program middle school classes!   We begin this year talking about Values - and we would like to provide the youth with a list of values that parents from our parish hold and hope to pass on to their children.  Would you help us out?  Please see the Middle School Blog on the parish website and post your top three values in the comments section.  You can also get an update about the middle school program there.

Did you know?  Our parish offers a faith-based sports program for all parish youth in grades 5 - 8. Many of the children in our Family Program and school have benefited from this.  Taking part in athletics
through the parish means your child will be part of a program where prayer is encouraged, where coaches serve as role models of Christian living, and where social and emotional skills are developed along with athletic skills. Our coaches teach our children sportsmanship and gracious winning and losing.  Questions?  Contact Ann Fons in the Faith Formation Office.  Register for Basketball and Track online TODAY!

Spiritwear!
Be ready to cheer on those St. Anthony on the Lake athletes with your very own spiritwear.   Order online today!  Order closes tonight; your next opportunity to order Spiritwear will be just in time for Christmas.

Family Program begins September 17 & 18!

We are looking forward to seeing all of you, welcoming our new families and reconnecting in faith. We are so excited to share our theme with you and begin the year.

You should have received an individual email letting your family know their home room.  Be sure to check your folders for your child's classrooms.

For those of you that are new, the folders will be on a table in the room you are assigned, we ask that you take out the materials in the folder and leave the folder there for us to fill with materials for the following time. New families will receive a phone call next week. Your prayers as we take care of all the last minute details are appreciated!

Family Inspiration:

I am the New Year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.

I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned
during the last twelve months about life.
All that you sought the past year and failed to find is hidden in me;
I am waiting for you to search it out again with more determination.

All the good that you tried to do for others
and didn't achieve last year is mine to grant
providing you have fewer selfish and conflicting desires.
In me lies the potential of all that you have dreamed
but didn't dare do,
all that you hoped but did not perform,
all you prayed for but did not yet experience.
These dreams slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened
by the touch of an enduring purpose.

I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance to Christ who said,
"Behold, I make all things new" (Rev. 21:5).
I am the New Year.
