The J-School is planning two ceremonies this week to celebrate the reopening of Stauffer-Flint Hall after the renovation.

: J-School students, faculty and staff are invited to gather at the new entrance for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. We'll have cookies, specialty coffee and giveaways.

Jan. 23, 3 p.m.
: The campus community is invited for a grand reopening ceremony, cake and a tour of the renovated Stauffer-Flint Hall.

Thomas leads high school project involving KC mayor's office
|
Eric Thomas
led a team of students from a Kansas City high school in a project that included interviewing
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas
and his general counsel during the school’s interim week. The project focused on a proposal by Lucas that some people convicted of nonviolent marijuana charges would be pardoned and that the city would help in the process of expunging their records. The team of eight St. Teresa’s students interviewed the mayor and his general counsel
Jane Pansing Brown
, who is an alumna of the school. After they completed their project — a multimedia website — the students presented the project to
Morgan Said
, a St. Teresa’s Academy graduate and also a graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Said now works as director of communications for the mayor’s office. Thomas will continue covering the mayor with a semester-long documentary project completed by KU students during Spring 2020. The project will investigate how Lucas’ work as a KU law professor sheds light on his work as mayor and how he juggles the two commitments.

Assistant Professor Hong Vu

Assistant Professor Teri Finneman
has been selected to attend the
Women in Journalism Workshop at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute in May. The annual workshop focuses on challenges, accomplishments and issues specific to women in the journalism industry.
Heather Lawrenz
, Adobe Education Leader and School of Journalism senior digital media trainer, presented an online Creativity Workshop for all Adobe leaders, Adobe education personnel and creatives on Dec. 18. Her workshop titled
“
From Illustration to Animation
”
featured her favorite tips and tricks in Illustrator, and she showed viewers how to animate that design in After Effects. She also talked about ways to encourage student creativity in the classroom and help students think of themselves as creative. She has been asked to present another worldwide workshop in the spring.
