We're delighted introduce Kesha Medina and Netdahe Stoddard, PJC facilitators who do ongoing racial justice work in rural VT.
As a young woman of color it is incredibly important for me to break down the barriers of communication that prevent dialogue around racism. Since coming to Vermont in 2014 to start college, I have been actively engaging in the fight against racism by being a part of and helping create two social justice groups: one at a local high school in Hardwick (Stand UP) and the other in the college I attend called (ROOTs).

I organized my first public protest at age 11 when we walked out of grade school in Lyndonville nearly 30 years ago to stop the first war on Iraq. I'm an independent contractor and have 20 years experience engaging, and confronting, people about racism, sexism and homophobia on job sites as a builder and landscaper.

As creator and a leading organizer, the Race Against Racism matters to me because it's a chance to give back to my community the best gifts I can offer: love and diversity.
Racism in our nation has undergone a shift from blatant to subtle, but is just as frequently found within the fabric of America.
Vermont, with Montpelier at its center, is considered a progressive symbol within the United States. Yet, there's still so much more we can aim for. Fighting for racial justice is an active task.
Once just an intriguing idea, students, teachers, and community coordinators have made the Race Against Racism a reality. The Race Against Racism is not only a physical race but a societal one: a race to eradicate racism as quickly as possible in
all
our communities.
Run, attend, and bring colleagues and friends! Support the youth who believe in a better Vermont, a better nation, and a better world.

Protesters topple Confederate statue in Durham, North Carolina
|
D
espite the fact cities like Baltimore pre-emptitvely removed their statues of confederate statues following the "unite the right" descending on #cville, brave organizers in Durham are facing multiple felonies for tearing down a symbol of white nationalism and white supremacy.
Mutual aid and solidarity is the best solution for state repression; we demand the charges to be dropped against these freedom fighters and want to publicly send material support to let them know we support their righteous actions. While these organizers are currently out on bail, their legal battle is just beginning with their next court date being September 20.
Our struggles in Vermont run parallel to the state repression and resistance we're seeing across the country -- our VT comrades being caught up in mass arrests at J20 (a legal battle they're still fighting), the detainment of Migrant Justice leaders by ICE. Racism and white supremacy are alive and well in Vermont -- Ryan Roy is just the tip of the iceberg.
Call the Durham DA's office and demand that the charges be dropped at

f you're white in Vermont -- it's really the least you can do.
