WORSHIP, MINISTRY AND MISSION
A Time of Prayer
from August 24 to September 1
During Ascensiontide 2018, the Archbishop of Canterbury called the entirety of the Anglican Communion to a season of prayer for
Thy Kingdom Come
. He asked each of us to join in… an initiative encouraging people to explore through prayer how they might courageously witness to God’s life-changing work.
Inspired by this, our Bishop (Provisional), the Right Reverend Mark Van Koevering, is asking us to consider what
Thy Kingdom Come
looks like in the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington. As Bishop Mark asked in his first pastoral letter to the Diocese… "I have been reflecting on how we might begin a Great Conversation in our diocese to describe the good that God is doing in and through us so that we might describe a common vision…."
August 24 through September 1 has been set aside as a time of intentional prayer to seek God's guidance for the Diocese of Lexington.
This is an invitation for individuals, families and churches to spend nine days in concentrated prayer on the theme of
Thy Kingdom Come.
As you pray, inquire how you might better live out your call to be the Church and participate in bringing the way of God to grow in the Diocese of Lexington…
The
Novena for Vision
was put together by Fr. Jeff Queen and invites us to Read, Look, Wait, Listen, and then Respond to God's probing by answering daily questions included in the guide.
To help facilitate a time of prayer for our Diocese, this guide has been developed to lead us through with specific readings and questions along the way.
Your participation and responses are requested and valued.
A
limited
number of print copies will be available at church during the prayer season - look for the gold-colored booklets.

guide if you are able, and write your responses on the forms provided. OR you may choose to read the guide online, and write your responses on a half-sheet of paper.

Be sure to include the assigned date of the question you are answering AND the entire question, with your response. Do NOT email your novena responses to any other address.
Return your responses in the offering plate by September 2, or to the office by September 5.
Following these nine days of prayer on September 2, 9, and 16, sermon themes will incorporate your responses and focus on God’s Kingdom made real in our Worship, our Mission and our Ministry.

On August 13, Bishop Van Koevering admitted Sue as a Candidate for Holy Orders. This major step from Postulant to Candidate brings her closer to ordination to the Diaconate.

CALL FOR ADULT ACOLYTES:
With so many of our senior youth graduating last year, we need more people to step up to serving as Acolytes (Crucifer and Torch) at the 10:30 service on Sunday. These positions are specifically open to adults as well as youth. The duty schedule rotates Sundays according to a schedule published in advance, so you need not commit to every Sunday. You have the opportunity to serve the Lord, your church, and your fellow parishioners in a very meaningful way. If you are interested in learning more, please see or email Craig Aossey

‘CHORDS OF COMPASSION’ Concert Series
to benefit ROSM (Resource Office of Social Ministry) – Saturdays in July and August, 7:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 72 Shepherd Way, in Frankfort. SUMMER OFFICE SCHEDULE
The parish office continues on a modified summer schedule, closing on Fridays. Office hours through August will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Regular Tuesday-Friday office hours will resume in September. Morning Prayer continues on the regular schedule, including Fridays.

FINANCIAL CRUNCH TIME AGAIN!
Fortunately, special donations covered the costs of our recent sewer repairs, as well as the “bees and weeds” projects.
Unfortunately, we have had tremendous maintenance and non-discretionary repair costs this year for HVAC, appliances, lighting, plumbing, and so on – costs that have adversely affected our cash flow. As in previous years, we are operating at a critical margin, and our ability to pay our bills and payroll is threatened.
Projected expenses for the year up to this point were $218,618, but our actual expenses have been $239,186. This is why we needed “special collections” for the recent projects, and why we continue to struggle financially.
We will soon be sending out pledge progress statements for your review. Please check your statement promptly, and catch up if you can and/or pay ahead as you are able. Thank you.

Do you have a team, group, family or partner who could bring in a few light/simple snacks, and/or help serve and clean up, for our important time of fellowship after the 10:30 service on Sunday? If you would like to help with Coffee Hour, please sign up on the printed sheet on the office window (or contact Jan Stevens - see below). The coffee itself is provided by the Men's Club, and vestry members have agreed to pitch in on Sundays when no one else is scheduled, but we encourage everyone to share in this ministry as you are able.
