National Network of State Teachers of the Year
Supports DACA & DACA Students
In response to President Trump's recent decision to end DACA and delay enforcement for six months, the National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY) released this statement.
We, an organization representing the nation's outstanding and recognized teachers, strongly support all of our students, including the nearly 800,000 undocumented students who were brought into the country as minors.
We believe all students must have access to a quality education. Our public schools must be welcoming places where students learn openly and freely, without fear, including the fear of deportation.
We are proud of accomplishments of the undocumented students that we have had the pleasure to know and teach. We applaud those who have moved forward in their education and their lives and become contributing participants to our workforce and our communities.
We urge Congress to propose and pass legislation that codifies in law the protections of DACA that President Obama began through an executive order.
We encourage our members to reach out to their Congressional representatives to ask them to act to legislate DACA quickly. Find your Senators and Congressional Representatives.
