Principal's Message April 20, 2018

Our next "Power Hour" has been planned by 8th grade students and is scheduled for Friday, April 27, at 1:55 p.m. in the gym, at which time we will honor the accomplishments of FHMS students for the Third Quarter Grading Term. In addition to parents, we are inviting community organizations who have formed strong relationships with the students and staff at FHMS, district level administrators, and our PTO. At this quarterly "Power Hour" we will celebrate our Principal's List and Honor Roll students, extracurricular sports teams, members of before/after school clubs, and more. We look forward to having you participate in this celebration with us; anticipate some surprises!

The FHMS/PTO Color Battle Fundraiser starts next week! We kicked off this 2-week event today with a fun-packed pep rally for all students (grades 6-8 first, then grades 4-5 second). Attached is a copy of my letter that was sent home with all students today, explaining how the fundraiser works. Next week all students will receive individual access codes, so you can enter and pay donations online, which will be the preferred method of payment. Payments can also be dropped off at school in cash or checks payable to FHPTO. The 2-week fundraiser will culminate in a celebratory Color Battle event on May 4th (think lots of color powder, participant t-shirts, loud music, high energy, and FUN!) for students who participate in the fundraiser. Funds raised this year will be used to purchase teacher supplies, classroom books, and to support STEM/Technology programs at our school.

FHMS Café

Our wonderful cafeteria staff, Lisa Smith and Kristi Mike, were recently awarded District and Regional Experience Awards from Sodexo. This award recognizes staff who go above and beyond. Lisa and Kristi won for their idea of shipping sheets between schools, which allows the company to more easily keep track of inventory. In addition, Lisa and Kristi received an A on their most recent Health Inspection. Thank you to Lisa and Kristi who are rockin' the café at Fountain Hills Middle School!

Summer School and Summer Enrichment

Be sure to check out the "In the News" page of the FHUSD website, which has all the information and links you need to plan summer activities for your students. FHUSD will continue to offer high school academic courses for credit, and sports camps for middle school and high school students. In addition, the district is once again partnering with the Boys & Girls Club to offer summer camp and enrichment classes. Finally, the Town of Fountain Hills' Community Services Department offers a wide variety of classes and activities for students.

Here's a list of just some of the great teen/tween programs being offered in April at the Fountain Hills Library. For more information and a full list of programs, go to the library website.

Dungeons and Dragons: April 30 and May 14 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Join us for an afternoon of action, danger, and excitement! If you've played Dungeons and Dragons before, come with your character's back story. If not, we'll help you create one from scratch. Either way, break out your polyhedral dice and join the adventure!

Keep Calm and...: May 21-24 after school

Keep calm and...Color? Do origami? Make an essential oil diffuser? If end of school year stress has you wound too tight, visit the library every weekday during the last two weeks of school for a new way to relax, practice a little self care, and take some time for you!
