Milestone Trips to Arizona and Florida
FC Richmond's U15 Magic and Mystx teams had a successful trip to Phoenix, Arizona in February! The Magic team came in 2nd place and just missed winning the tournament by one goal. They played well all weekend and won two games (St Croix Academy from Minnesota 5-0 and Pride SC from Colorado 1-0) and tied 1 (SC Del Sol Premier 1-1). The Mystx team also played well, tying 1-1 against Rush Nero from New Mexico in their 1st game. They tied 0-0 against Arizona Inferno in their 2nd game. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam in a very early game on Sunday morning and lost 3-0 to Paso de Norte from Texas.
Our U13 Magic and U13 Metro Girls team headed to Florida last week. The Magic team lost their 1st game to a Largo Team 1-0. They played much better and beat a team from Sarasota 3-1. They came back in their 3rd game from a 2-0 deficit to tie 2-2, but unfortunately couldn't hold on and ended up losing 3-2 to a team from Pinellas County. The U13 Metro Girls also played well. They won their 1st game 3-0 by beating Celtic Green, from Florida and their 2nd game by beating the Florida Hawks 2-0. They also won their 3rd game 5-0 by beating Florida Premier. They played Celtic White from Florida in the final and were beaten 3-0. Great work getting to the finals! These milestone trips are great experiences for players to bond with teammates, play in new environments, and travel to new places!

Travel Team Tryout Dates Announced
All tryouts for FC Richmond's travel teams, ages U8 (2013 birthyear) through U19 (2002 birthyear) will take place April 17th through May 11th, 2020. See below for all dates and times. STAY TUNED FOR EXCITING PROGRAM NEWS AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION!
"Beyond the Game" Player of the Month
Callie Slack, a longtime FC Richmond player, and U19 Mystx goalkeeper, has spent the past year going "Beyond the Game", volunteering as a tutor in the ESOL (English as a Second Language) program at James River High School. Callie’s efforts have allowed various students without a strong english background to succeed in their academic studies. She specifically tutors an advanced English class, focusing on sentence structure and reading comprehension. She began tutoring in the ESOL program because she “really enjoys teaching, helping others, and making new connections”, all while putting her classroom knowledge of Spanish to the test. Volunteering in the ESOL program has also pushed Callie to better her communication and leadership skills. She is planning on continuing teaching in the ESOL program for the upcoming year as well. Way to go, Callie!
Team Building through Outreach
FC Richmond believes it is important to go “Beyond the Game” and provide character building opportunities for our players. With the support of the Junior Board, we provided opportunities to give back to our community in February. The U10 Girls Navy team and the U14 Metro Boys volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House where they made lunch for the families staying in the home. The Ronald McDonald House provides a “home-away-from-home” for families with children receiving care at local medical facilities. If your team would like to find an outreach opportunity, please contact Lynne Ellis at lynne@fcrichmond.com
Recreational Coaches Clinic
Thank you to all of the recreational coaches who attended the coaches clinic with FCR Directors, Trip Ellis, Trip Dunville, Trevor Spencer, and Ian Stowe. These coaches got up and active as they learned new drills and activities to utilize while coaching their teams. There were a lot of great questions and dialogue throughout the clinic. We enjoyed getting to know everyone at the social afterwards. We hope you have a great spring season!
