In celebration of International Women’s Day , welcome to our first newsletter designed to serve the global community of educators, program providers, professional associations, and all the wonderful champions encouraging girls across the world to consider activities and careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science. For more than fifteen years, the National Girls Collaborative Project has been the leading source for exemplary practices and resources in the United States. Now, in partnership with our friends at Futuristas , we are pleased to provide high quality resources from effective programs. 

This newsletter will be distributed quarterly and we invite you to send resources and events from around the world. We are highlighting exemplary programs from multiple countries in each issue. Please share this issue with colleagues! Contact us with suggestions for content and distribution channels.
March 8th is International Women's Day
UN Women is celebrating its 2020 theme of "I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights". The Generation Equality campaign is bringing together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion, and country, to drive actions that will create the gender-equal world we all deserve. Women and Girls STEMming the Tide of Waste
Women are on the front-lines of the challenge of waste due to their roles and responsibilities within households and as a group disproportionately impacted by the current climate and ecological crisis. Young women are the leaders of the youth movement globally, calling attention to these issues.

Canada
The Canadian Association for Girls In Science (CAGIS) is a club for girls (ages 7-16). CAGIS chapter members meet monthly to explore STEM with fun, hands-on activities led by STEM experts. Events often occur at the work place of STEM experts, giving girls a behind-the-scenes view of science in action. Learn more .

Drive for Five is an initiative focused on girls' education, considered a catalyst to deliver on global commitments for gender equality. Gender bias restricts the subject choices and girls are often not encouraged to enroll in STEM programmes or in technical and vocational training. Career Girls, a nonprofit that provides young girls with real, professional women role models and career exploration tools (with an emphasis on STEM), has launched its Career Girls Mobile Learning Center pilot program, in partnership with Starlight Africa, in Rwanda. Learn more .

1000 Girls, 1000 Futures
An enterprise of the New York Academy Of Sciences Global STEM Alliance to enhance STEM learning for students around the world. 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures is a free mentorship program that pairs girls (age 13-18) with female mentors who study or work in STEM fields. Girls receive one-on-one mentor support and innovative programming aimed at helping develop essential 21st century skills. Both mentors and mentees gain the opportunity to be a part of a global network of women.

A New Era for Girls: Taking stock of 25 years of progress
UNICEF has launched " A New Era for Girls: Taking stock of 25 years of progress ", a joint report with Plan International and UN Women that reviews progress, and lack of, for girls since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The report supports the goals of Generation Equality, a multi-partner platform and campaign led by UN Women, Governments of France and Mexico and civil society that aims to accelerate progress for girls' and women’s empowerment.

Cracking The Code: Girls' and women's education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
This UNESCO report aims to decipher the factors that hinder or facilitate girls’ and women’s participation, achievement and continuation in STEM education. It presents the status of girls’ and women’s participation and achievement in STEM subjects at different levels of education, drawing on cross-national and regional assessments from more than 120 countries. It suggests an ecological model to identify factors influencing girls’ participation, achievement, and progression in STEM education, and interventions that can be taken to inspire, engage and empower girls and women in STEM. International Journal of Gender, Science and Technology: Re-Imagining Who Does STEM
The first of two special issues, focused on research that emerged from the Network Gender & STEM conference, centering on a re-imagining of “who does STEM,” and featured scholars from an array of disciplines and perspectives from around the globe. Free copies are available for download .
SciGirls
This Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids television show and educational outreach program draws on research about what engages STEM learning and careers. The program has reached millions of girls, educators, and families on-air, online and on-the-ground.  SciGirlsCONNECT hosts SciGirls’ videos and hands-on activities in both English and Spanish that address a singular but powerful goal: to inspire, enable, and maximize STEM learning and engagement for all girls. SciGirls key national collaboration partner, the National Girls Collaborative Project helps to promote SciGirls gender equity resources across girl-serving STEM programs around the world.
STARportal
The STARportal is Australia’s first centralised national portal for exciting and engaging STEM activities from around the country. This searchable database connects parents, students and teachers with their local and online STEM activities in real time.

Technovation Girls: Girls for a Change.
This free technology-based program is for girls (+transgender, non-binary, or gender nonconforming) ages 10-18. Working in teams, girls find a problem in their community and build a mobile app to help solve it. Along the way, they develop their collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Adults may participate as mentors, ambassadors, or judges. Registration deadline is March 16, 2020. Submission Deadline is April 20, 2020. Learn more .

UN Women Social Media
These public Trello boards contain all the social media content from UN Women. Created to empower and support women everywhere these boards contain GIFs, illustrations, videos, data cards, and slogans that are free to download and use.
