The Relationship Group: Locus poenitentiae * 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM
A Latin phrase applied to contract law, locus poenitentiae means "a place of repentance or for changing one's mind." In the legal nomenclature, the phrase denotes the right to withdraw from an assumed obligation or role, often one that was originally created to commit an intended crime. I am using this phrase metaphorically as the psychological capacity to release oneself from the "internal and interpersonal contracts" that lead to poor choices, unfulfilling life circumstances, and self-destruction. Many people live in a state of ongoing dissatisfaction while some find a way to disembed themselves from patterned attitudes and behaviors that have imprisoned them.  In the next meeting of the Relationship Group on Saturday, June 16, 2018 (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM) , we will explore the psychological notion of locus poenitentiae and its key component: untruth. 
The Men's Group: What Makes Men Unattractive* 10:15 to 11:30 AM
In my clinical practice, I frequently find myself responding to questions from male clients about what is or is not appealing about them, what characteristics or features will make them more charismatic and successful in their social and professional lives, what do they not "have" that other guys do. In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, June 16, 2018 (10:15 to 11:30 AM) , we will review various perspectives ( Craig James of Masculine By Design ; Shana Lebowtiz's Business Insider piece ; Jordan Gray's depiction of the undateable man ) on these questions. 
The Dynamic Psychotherapy Process Group 1:15 to 2:30 PM
This therapy group utilizes the emerging dynamics among group members, and between the group members and facilitator, as a basis from which to examine one's characteristic ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others.  Our next group session will be on Saturday, June 16, 2018 (1:15 to 2:30 PM).  A second process group that will be meeting on a weekday evening at my Newport Beach office is starting soon; interested persons may contact me directly at 949-338-4388 or jt@jamestobinphd.com for more information.  
* If you would like to attend the Men's Group and/or the Relationship Group on June 16, 2018, please RSVP to me at 949-338-4388 or  jt@jamestobinphd.com . There is a limit of 14 attendees for each group and registrants will be accommodated on a first-come/first-serve basis. The fee is $25.00.

Please note that the Men's Group and the Relationship Group are psychoeducational in nature, not therapeutic, and do not constitute psychotherapy or counseling. In contrast, the Dynamic Psychotherapy Process Group is a therapeutic experience and entry occurs only after a pre-group screening interview.
